Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Alma is a pit bull mix who is now going on 6 years old and has had quite the history with us. In 2020, at around a year old, we first received her from the city pound after she was held there and never claimed by an owner. She was with us for over a year and was adopted in January 2022. Her owner's situation changed drastically in 2023, so Alma was returned in July 2023 after 18 months in her home. It was hard for both of them, as Alma (known in her home as "Pretty"), was very loved by her owner.  Alma did very well in her home. It was a fairly quiet environment with just Alma and the lady who adopted her. Alma did tend to be pretty protective of her person as it was just the two of them. We do think she would do best in a similar environment. She does seem to respond best to women and enjoys cuddling in someone's lap. She's looking for an adult only home (teens are okay). No other animals. After all she has experienced, she deserves to be the only pet in the home. Alma is strong and active and will require regular exercise. Many of our volunteers have a soft spot for her and would like to see her get back into a home for good. She has been fully vetted and her fee is $125. Watch a TikTok video featuring Alma below! https://www.tiktok.com/@happy.critter.ranch/video/7292215239397887275 NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. An application can be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 4, 2025, 8:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Smokey is a 5 year old pit bull type dog who came to us on 12/23/2023 after he showed up as a stray on someone's property. We found out pretty quickly that he was actually dumped by someone who did not want him. It seems that he has been bounced around quite a few times. In spite of this he's still a friendly and happy guy. He loves to play fetch and frisbee. He has been fully vetted and microchipped and his fee is $150. We have put together a little of Smokey's backstory. He did live with other dogs here and there, BUT does prefer to be the only critter in the home. A quiet and somewhat calm home would be great for him. He would do best in an adult only home but teens are okay. He's very strong and does need some work on leash walking, but would make a loyal companion for someone. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Todd is a large, happy, and beefy pit bull type mix who came to us on 12/3/2023. We never expected this hunk to stay with us for such a long time! He was found stray in a rural area, held for the legal hold time, and no one claimed him. He is about 3 years old and we are guessing he could be mixed with boxer, mastiff and/or bulldog. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Todd is strong and has shown a little bit of dog reactivity at the shelter. This is not unusual as it's a pretty rowdy environment. He has calmed down a bit since his initial arrival and enjoys walks and belly rubs. We do think he would do best as the only pet in the home. He could potentially do okay with a nice female dog. He loves people but does need a strong owner who can handle his strength and keep up with his energy level. He does appear to have had some basic training. No small kids for this bulldozer of love. This is due to his size and strength, not his personality! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ingrid is a friendly and stocky pit bull type gal with a beautiful brindle coat. She arrived on 10/23/2023 as she was found "stray", if not abandoned, at a local park. She was never claimed by an owner after fulfilling the legal hold time with us. She is around 4 years old and not too large, at around the 50 pound mark. She has been fully vetted and microchipped and her fee is $150. Ingrid enjoys the company of people. She would do best in an experienced adult only home (teens should be fine). We do feel that she would prefer to be the only pet in the home. She is pretty well mannered but might need a bit of basic training. She's a princess! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Django was born at our shelter in Aug., 2020 and adopted as a young puppy. He has always lived in the same home. His family dynamic has recently changed dramatically and they have made the difficult decision to find him a new home. Due to overcrowding at our shelter, Django is still living with them and we're hoping to get some interest in him without bringing him to the shelter. He is fully vetted and his adoption fee will be paid by his current family. Django is a really big boy and can be pretty protective of his person/people. With his people he's very loyal and loving. He was raised with a smaller dog and cats. He's looking for a home with some experience with large, strong dogs. He will require good exercise and a home in which he's not left alone for long hours. He's not a dog for apartment living. ADULT only home. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Crawford is a pit bull type guy who came to the shelter on 2/11/2025, when his legal hold time at the city pound was finished. He is large and strong and has the big, beefy head that we love! He has been vet checked, neutered, and chipped and his fee is $150. Crawford loves people and is very friendly but might need a little work on his manners. He could use some work on leash walking which isn't unusual, but he's not horrendous. He can be a little reactive with other dogs but is redirected pretty easily. He might have the potential to be okay with a well mannered female dog. Older kids would be best for him due to his size and strength. NO cats or smaller animals for this hunk.
