She loves to run and play. She is still a little mouthy and continues to be easily redirected with Nylabones. June Bug is treat and play motivated. She has enjoyed some fetch and tug. She loves covering her head when snuggling and getting ready for a snooze.  1/11/2025 Foster Feedback: June Bug is a whopping 12 lbs now!!! She is growing nicely though gets distracted while eating. She joins in enthusiastically when her mentor dogs show their delight with food.  Taking naps is a favorite activity of hers, and she has shown us that the best way to get some sleep is to tuck her head under blankets, pillows or in your overalls. She will occasionally stick out her tongue when getting some seriously deep sleep. Can she get any cuter? I think not! With this latest cold snap - she now doesn’t love going outside to do her business. She will still go but prefers to use the puppy pads.  June Bug is curious about the resident cats, but she gives them space. They will find her peeking around the corner to get a good look. When spotted she will go to another corner to peek around.  Junie loves play, with her signature move of rolling on her back and fending off her playmates with her hind legs. Her size doesn’t hold her back in her pursuit for a good time.  We discovered she loves chewing on the kitchen chairs much to our chagrin. She is now aware of the joys of Nylabones - for the preferred and more acceptable teething toy. It’s hard to get upset when she looks at you with the most adorable and innocent eyes. Could this little bundle of joy fill that space in your home and heart? 1/1/25 Foster Feedback: June Bug, aka Junie B, is the sweetest little gal. She is adjusting well in these first few days we have had her. She is doing well with potty training but is not a huge fan of being outside in the cold. June Bug usually gets right to business and runs back inside. She is sleeping in her crate for most of the night.  She is a great snuggler. It is so adorable to see her prancing around and playing. June Bug has the most fun to watch puppy coordination- over shooting her destination, getting caught up in the blankets she is wrestling with.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 25, 2025, 11:41 am

Fajita may be your chance. I can't get a bead on the predominant breed she is, but that doesn't stop her from being a wonderful doggo. Fajita gets along with everyone- she loves playing with my resident pit bull and has been very friendly with all the people and dogs she has met- this girl wags her whole body as she is so happy to meet you. I can't attest to how she would be with children, but my feeling is she would be fine. She does get excited- she may jump, and she can be a teeny bit mouthy when trying to play, but only if you let her get away with it. We cat-tested her and while she was curious, she redirected very easily. Conversely, she does love to chase the bunnies out of the yard. I think she would love a dog friend to play with. Fajita loads into and out of the car no problem. She will whine a bit at first but eventually settles down. She is also possibly the best treat taker I have ever encountered- she knows to sit to get her treats and takes them from your fingers very gently. She sits nicely to wait for her food and will wait for the okay to start eating. She was shedding fairly heavily when I first got her, but that has tapered off- I think she was transitioning to being an indoor dog, so shedding that outdoor coat. She does love to be brushed, and we are working on handling her feet so that nail trimming is easier.  Most of the time she thinks I want to play with her when I hold her paw, so we have to wait until she holds still and makes eye contact before I let her foot go. Rinse and repeat.  Fajita LOVES her toys and bones- you will absolutely need to keep some things for her to chew on and play with. She is not the worst toy destroyer I've had but she does love pulling the fluff out of her stuffies. I have had no problem with her destroying things that she shouldn't- from time to time I might find one of my shoes in an odd place if I forget to put them away but she has not destroyed any of them.  Fajita has sniffed at some of my plants and started to nibble on one once, but I caught her right away, corrected her, and she hasn't touched it since. Overall, she is trusted to roam the house when I am not home, and sleeps on the bed with me overnight, although sometimes she prefers to stay by herself on the dog bed in the office. Her last fosters preferred to crate her overnight and while they were away, which worked fine- she will head right into the crate with a peanut butter kong, no problems.  BUT she is incredibly cuddly- wants to be wherever you are and loves cozying up on the couch with her people. I do have to keep Fajita out of my basement level because for some reason she will pee down there if she gets the chance. I gate that area off with a baby gate and that has solved that problem. The last downside I want to mention is that her leash manners leave something to be desired- she will pull and fight the collar/ harness. However, this is manageable. It has not stopped me from taking her to the vet or the 4 Luv facility or wherever, and she is so smart I am sure this could be trained out of her.  Fajita might bark at the vacuum (either Roomba or upright) but she is unafraid. She may also bark at passersby on the street but this is infrequent. I work from home, and she is a great "coworker"- fantastic at entertaining herself during the day, either napping or playing with her toys or with my resident dog. Overall, Fajita is still a dog in progress for the reasons I've mentioned above, but her wonderful temperament is a great jumping off point. I think with time and responsible leadership she will be someone's perfect companion.  To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 25, 2025, 11:41 am

They came back as suspect histiocytomas, but because that type of mass typically occurs in young dogs, the histopathologist is suspicious of cutaneous Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis. Though these masses are typically benign, they may continue to grow, and some may grow faster than others. We have seen some growth and then shrink. The masses may need to be removed per vet recommendation if they show signs of infection. 11/21/24 Foster Feedback: Happy Thanksgiving everyone from Rico Suave and his foster family!  He loved his summer and early fall at the lake and since moving back to town has enjoyed long walks every day and accompanying me to most places I go. Rico is a patient guy and waits nicely in the car while I deliver meals to seniors or go to the grocery store. At home he lounges on one of his many dog beds and at night he gives me 12” on the edge of our king-sized bed!   Rico’s skin has been just excellent…no dander and baths only needed every 10 days to 2 weeks.  Rico is a quiet guy with absolutely PERFECT house manners.  He doesn’t need to be kenneled, but he often goes in on his own for a snooze.  He is in excellent condition physically…no sore joints, great vision and hearing too. He is finally getting a few white hairs as it befits his almost 11.5 years.   I know Rico looks grumpy in his pictures, but really, he isn’t at all!  He just doesn’t get too excited about anything…a true go-with-the-flow guy.  Rico is still waiting for someone to pick him to love 6/24/24 Foster Feedback: Handsome Rico is lovin’ life at the lake this summer!  Favorite pastimes are sleeping in, sunbathing naps on the blanket softened patio, hoping someone shares a Zorbaz pizza on the pontoon.  His skin has been great and dander is gone!  He is the healthiest and youngest 11 year old ever!  Still looking for a retirement buddy. I know it says a 6’ fence needed, but a baby gate is probably enough. Such an easygoing, quiet guy.  He is even making friends with a chihuahua. He is a dreamboat!  Love him to pieces!! 2/28/24 Foster Feedback: This distinguished, handsome and spry senior is still patiently waiting (over 900 days now!) for a kind hearted person to share their heart and home with him.  He needs so little…a soft dog bed or a fuzzy blanket on an end of your couch is just fine for Mr. Suave. This guy is easy peasy,  rarely barks, eats and travels well, never has a potty accident, kennels beautifully or can be left loose in the house and is friendly with adult strangers. He isn’t the most photogenic as his expression never changes…it literally always looks the same whether he’s happy, sad, excited or mad. He may look grumpy but he’s definitely not.  Rico does have some skin issues requiring weekly medicated baths, but he jumps right into either the tub or shower with no problem at all. His skin medication is only $60 a month and he is not on prescription food either.   During this mild winter, he has been willing to take a long walk just about every day. He walks loose leash perfectly. He also will run after a tennis ball a few times and throw his stuffed fox in the air. He is looking forward to some sun bathing on the patio soon!   I hope Rico gets a chance to meet one of you looking for a perfect companion.  10/21/2023 Foster Feedback: This is Rico Suave and I can’t believe not even one person has asked to meet me over the last two years. I've been anchoring the list of available dogs for waaay too long considering what an agreeable, affectionate and well-behaved guy I am! The only time I ever bark is if the doorbell wakes me up from a snooze. I’m not interested in looking out windows so I never even see the mailman, I have never put my front paws on a counter ever, and I never bother or chew on anything. My foster mom tells me every day what a good boy I am and I really really am!   I love to ride in the car and am quiet and calm, I don’t need to go outside to do my duty more than a few times a day. I sometimes like to go for a 6-8 block walk (I never pull), but mostly I’m content to just lay on whatever dog bed is closest to where my foster mom is. I even love to just be in my kennel with the door open. Since I’m such a good boy, I have run of the house when my family is gone. If you read under my picture about some growths I had in the past, I am happy to tell you I haven’t had any more! Yay for me! Although I am almost 10.5 years old, I am very spry and have absolutely no old age aches or pains, my muzzle isn’t grizzled and my eyes see very well. What I do have are a lot of skin tags and warts and I need to have a medicated shampoo every 5-6 days to keep my sensitive skin doing good. I do have more dander than an average dog, but my mom says it’s not a big deal to swiffer or vacuum more often. She keeps a blanket or sheet over the bed and the couch that I have permission to sleep on. I take cyclosporine every day to help my skin and occasionally have a cytopoint shot if my skin gets itchy.  While I want to be your only pet, I don’t act bad when I see another dog on a walk, and I don’t give a hoot about geese, squirrels or turkeys wandering around.  The best thing about me is all the love I show to my foster mom and dad. I am happiest when they sit down so I can invade their personal space and lay my big noggin on their lap! I am such a loveable guy and I know there has to be a forever person out there somewhere for me. I am waiting for you…please come and pick me as your companion and friend!   06/12/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico is still patiently waiting for his forever home while living at the lake this summer and experiencing new activities. He took his first pontoon ride and was very comfortable just hanging out looking at other boats and the scenery passing by. I also brought him into the water and confirmed he can swim…but he really didn’t enjoy it much.  What he does really enjoy is basking in the sun on the concrete…and we do short sessions a few times a day. Mostly he just naps the day away staying close to where I am. He is such an affectionate, calm and loving dog! Go with the flow Rico is so well behaved…he never gets into anything, keeps all 4 paws on the floor and jumps right into the tub for his weekly medicated bath. He rarely woofs at strangers walking on the beach road anymore and is content to just walk around the yard with me for exercise a few times a day. Rico is such an easy dog…he just needs a home without kids, has a fence and no other pets. He will give you all the love you need!     5/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Grandpa Rico has gone from holding down the couch to lawn ornament status basking in the warmth of the sun! Rico may have a grumpy countenance, but he is one of the most agreeable and go-with-the-flow dogs we have had the pleasure of fostering. His allergies still require medicated baths every five days and yep, he does have more than usual amounts of dander…but it’s an easy fix with a vacuum and swiffer!   Rico is a good eater, keeps all four feet on the floor (except when snuggling on the couch or sleeping just as close as he can possibly can to you in bed at night.) He doesn’t snore, kennels beautifully or can be left to free roam, only wants a short walk on nice days, has never chewed on anything human related, rides quietly and calmly in any vehicle and rarely barks. Look at that adorable little tip of his tongue that escapes his mostly toothless gums.  Although Rico wants to be your only pet, he is not reactive when seeing other dogs on walks or while riding in the car. He really is such a very, very good boy!     1/18/2023 Foster Feedback: Rico Suave has been with us since Christmas and we LOVE him!  We are retired and mostly home and he is happy not being kenneled all day. Rico is just the easiest and sweetest old man and has excellent house manners and a quiet, loving, and gentle nature. Literally, all he needs is a comfy dog bed or the end of a couch to nap on…and someone willing to give him frequent medicated baths to help his skin.  Rico doesn’t play with toys or chew on bones but will be happy to take a walk on warmer days, go for rides in the car or cuddle up next to you. He is a champion napper…happiest when he is right next to you with his huge noggin resting on your lap 9/6/2022 Foster Feedback: Rico has been doing well this summer. He enjoys napping on the cement, going for short walks, listening to turkeys (they don't bother him), and playing 5 minutes of tug of war every week. It's a big regiment for a big fella in his retirement phase of life. Rico has been doing very very well on walks; not reacting to other dogs or other critters out on walks. He is still a very treat-motivated old man. Rico sure would like to lounge in his forever home very soon! 7/21/2022 Volunteer Feedback: Rico Suave is a precious old man who would love to be someone's best buddy. His talents include snacking, pondering the meaning of life, and making sure the couch isn't going anywhere. He likes to be close to or directly on his people while just hanging out, or patrolling the great outdoors and taking in all the local sniffs. He's one of those gentle giants who may look like a grump but is secretly a total softie who isn't afraid to show his love with kisses and snuggles. 2/9/2022: Rico is the perfect winter dog in my mind as he has no interest in long walks in the cold or the snow; he just wants to go out for business purposes only. He loves his walks in the warmer weather of course. Rather than a long cold, snowy walk, he would rather just have a tasty treat out of his kong and then snuggle up for a nap. Handsome man Rico hasn't had any new bumps since the last bumps in the fall disappeared, so that is great news! Rico recently attended a "VIP" dog event the rescue collaborated with Down Dog Studio and Rico got to spend half an hour getting about a million pets from strangers; he was an absolute ham. He is pouting and sad he didn't find his forever home but, he looks forward to you giving him the next million pets. Rico grows weary of his foster father coming home from volunteering at the shelter almost daily and smelling like other dogs while he sits in his kennel; it's just not right for an old pup in his retirement years! 8/27/21:  Rico has been with me for a couple of months now. Rico was returned to the rescue after about 7 years, so he is really thankful 4 Luv of Dog has been there twice to take him in. Rico has been a very easy dog to have in the home. He is a fantastic house guest, I am more than happy to let him spend a little time here while he searches for that perfect retirement home. Rico will spend most of the day sleeping. He might follow you around the house a little but generally, he is going to find a cozy spot if there isn't a lap to settle into. Rico is kennel trained and spends his time while I am away in his kennel. He does well and seems comfortable. I always give him a reward for kenneling, and he usually gets breakfast in his kennel before I leave for work. He is potty trained and hasn't had any accidents.  Rico generally gets a little exercise after I return from work and then it's nap time again for Mr. Suave. Rico does love walking and exploring, occasionally even running. As a distinguished older gentleman, however, he doesn't really need extreme amounts of exercise daily as some dogs require. Rico is an oinker that absolutely loves his food and treats, which is great for training and having him follow your directions. That being said, his weight is doing pretty well and he has lost a few pounds since his initial vet visit, as the vet recommended. Rico's transition from his old home of about 7 years to a stay at the shelter, then to my home was not very easy for him. He was also coming off a prescription of steroids per the veterinarian's advice. While he was completely content inside my apartment almost immediately, he did take some adjustments to the neighborhood on walks. Other people and dogs would stress him out if we got too close. He really needed decompression time to get used to his new surroundings. 4 Luv of Dog sent Rico and me through a six-week training course  "Over Reactive Rover"  through Down Dog Studio to help him overcome this hurdle, and it has helped immensely. Rico has been much easier and calmer to walk and has picked up very well on everything we have been taught. I would, of course, go over some of the things we worked on so he can continue to be successful in his retirement home. I would also encourage adopters to continue training as training classes are just as much for the owner as for the dog. I feel like Rico's transition from his foster home to an adoptive home will be much easier than the transition from the shelter to a foster home. This coupled with the training Rico has received has him really looking forward to lounging around with you, so please consider adopting Rico to help him finish his journey out of the rescue for good!!To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 25, 2025, 11:41 am

She did such a great job on the hour long car ride home and all rides since. As others have said, she knows sit, stay, lay down, shake, high five, and roll over. We’re working on drop, touch, and I’ve also noticed after walks in the wet grass or snow that if you tell her to wipe her feet when she walks in, she will go stand on the rug and sometimes spin around a couple times. Otherwise she will sit nicely on the rug until her harness is off. Percy is the greatest roommate and will make the perfect permanent addition to someone’s family. As I’ve gotten to know Percy I think she would do best in a household where she is the only pet and has a big yard to run and play fetch. Percy has loved any human that has come to our home, and walking by the neighbor kids outside doesn’t phase her. Percy does well in a kennel. I do keep her kenneled for a few hours in the morning while I’m at work. Otherwise I leave her out and she has free rein of the house and she does just fine. Percy has slept in her kennel overnight and doesn’t make a peep. She also sleeps in my bed and I barely know she’s there. Percy enjoys her squeaky toys. We found one that she can’t seem to destroy! She likes frozen Kongs and Pupsicles, as well as a nice tug-of-war competition, and tennis ball fetch. I also got her a few enrichment feeders/toys that she’s currently learning how to use. Percy will get the zoomies for a few minutes each night but is pretty relaxed and the cuddliest pup otherwise. We’re currently working on Percy’s leash walking. I’ve seen great improvement in the last two months as Percy isn’t as reactive to other animals and doesn’t pull nearly as much. It seems she will pull until she finds a spot to potty and then relaxes, so I’ve noticed if I keep her in my yard until she goes potty the walk is more enjoyable for all. She’s well on her way to being the best leash walker. Percy is a wonderful dog, very smart, extremely cute, and will make the best addition to a lucky individual or family!  9/6/23 Foster Feedback: Percy is doing well with training! She knows sit, stay, shake, touch, down, leave it and find it. She is very eager to please her people and learn new things and loves the snacks that go along with training sessions. She is still learning off (jumping up) and leash manners. Percy still has her puppy energy but has settled in well! She enjoys having structure and goes into her crate without any issues. She sleeps in her crate all night without any fuss. She has quite the personality! She loves running laps in the backyard with a toy and gets an occasional case of the zoomies! She enjoys as many walks as she can get! Percy really is a sweet girl and deserves a loving family she can grow old with! She likes following her humans around the house and doesn’t want to miss out on anything. She will snuggle up on your lap for as long as you let her. This girl is ready to show you her personality 7/5/23 Foster Feedback: Persephone loves people! Doesn’t want to miss out on what her humans are doing! The recent fireworks did not seem to phase her. She is highly entertained by toys and tennis balls and can typically entertain herself with them; however we do play fetch in the backyard a few times a day. Persephone likes to cuddle up beside us on the couch or in our laps. She knows her name and basic commands and is also house trained. She is crate trained and does very well in there. Goes to bed without making a noise! Percy is dog-reactive when on walks. She can be redirected with treats but will need continued training on this. A home with a fenced yard or active family for running around is recommended.  6/5/23 Foster Feedback: Persephone is a sweet and playful girl that loves to cuddle and play fetch as much as you'll allow! She would be best in a non-apartment environment, due to her still working on being a bit reactive to other dogs, and loving lots of space to move around and play. She is crate trained, potty trained, and is a turning into a great listener. Persephone would love a lively home that would give her lots of love and attention! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 25, 2025, 11:41 am

He has been with me for a couple weeks now and I have learned so much about him! He is a lover dog and just wants to be next to his humans - he will be your shadow! Even more, he aims to please and luckily, he is a fast learner. One day in our foster home and he learned to sit by the patio door when he is ready to go outside for a bathroom break and has picked up on queues from our resident dog. We are continuing to work on his manners as he is always curious to see if anything has been left behind for him on the countertops.  He kennels GREAT while we are gone for the day, which ranges from 5-8 hours. He does require moderate stimulation and exercise or can get wound up with zoomies by the end of the night. He walks great and can be easily redirected when he sees other dogs walking with small training treats and tongue clicks/noises.  He does best with dogs smaller (in size) than him and would do great with another dog to play and wrestle with. Controlled introduction between Mayor and other dogs has been the best experience thus far, as he gets overstimulated and worked up when he meets other hyper dogs. We do not have a fenced yard at our foster home, but I do think it would be in Mayor's best interest to have a fenced yard to free roam. He is mostly self-entertained with lots of stuffy toys, feeder puzzles, filled bones/Kongs/etc.  Mayor is going to make an amazing and loving addition to a family and has SO much room to grow into specific training skills and is already showing flexibility in various work schedules. He is looking for a semi-active family to slowly help him get more active. This guy is a big squishy marshmallow that would love to snuggle and chase a tennis ball down your hallway. 4/5/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: Big Bongo is an amazing dog! He is a gentle giant with plenty of drool. He’s eager to leave his kennel and becomes a devoted shadow—whether you walk or run (though his adorable waddle is more his style), Bongo is right behind you, without needing treats as encouragement. Bongo enjoys exercise indoors, especially walking loops with a treat nearby. Surprisingly, Bongo shows great restraint—he doesn’t attempt to jump or snatch the snack from your hand. Instead, he listens attentively and is well-versed in commands such as "sit," "hand," "wait," "lay down," and "bed." To manage his weight, his snacks—like the three low-fat treats used during training—are split into tiny pieces to prevent overindulgence. Bongo is a very good boy with immense potential. With weight management and continued care, Bongo would undoubtedly love to play more and reveal even more of his charming personality. 12/31/2022 Foster Feedback: Bongo has spent two nights at our house. He made himself at home pretty quickly and is showing is personality more and more. He is potty trained. He goes to the door to let you know he has to go out. He does his business and comes in pretty quickly. He also is crate trained. I don’t think he necessarily likes to go in the crate, but goes in for a treat easily. He has been kept out of the crate at night and does well at night. We have a nine year old lab who he would really like to play with. She however, is geriatric and crabby and does not want to play. I understand he has been around other dogs and does well.   Bongo is a beautiful dog as you can see by the pictures. He has great color. He is pretty mellow most of the time but does have some spunk in him for play time. He likes to chew on tennis balls, a Kong ball, and plays with a rope. Here are a few of his likes/dislikes we have noticed so far:  Likes:  -Food! Bongo would eat every waking minute if you let him. He loves meal time and treat time.   -Kids. I have three children aged 7 to 13. He loves the kids. He stayed in my oldest daughter’s room Thursday night and I was up when he woke up. He greeted me calmly and immediately went to the other kids’ rooms to check on them. He got really excited when my youngest woke up. She received ear sniffs and lots of kisses from him when he saw she was up!   -His blankies. He likes to lay on the floor with his blankets. He is welcome on our furniture, but mostly seems to want to stay off of it and prefers to snuggle up on the floor with some blankets.   -Naps. He will wander around and play for a while, but he likes to nap after active time.   -His balls/toys. He likes to kick around the ball and chew on it. It is funny to watch.   -People. He has enjoyed meeting all the people he has been introduced to.   -Car rides. He sits nicely in the car and has enjoyed all the car rides he has been on so far.   Dislikes:  -The vacuum. The vacuum is an enemy. He thought he was tough and saving us from the vacuum. But really he would not get close enough to actually save us if it were an enemy.   -The sound of the dryer telling us the clothes were dry. Lol. He heard this while napping, perched his head up, and went to investigate. Maybe not a dislike, but it certainly peaked his interest!   Bongo is a happy go lucky dude and has been a great dog in our home so far.To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 25, 2025, 11:41 am
