Story
DENNIS the 8 month old labbish terrier mix puppy was surrendered when he came down with Parvo a month ago and his owners no longer wanted to keep him. We rushed in and provided the lifesaving treatment, and he is now as good as new, with a great story to tell. It was touch and go for awhile, for sure. He's now a typical playful, friendly puppy and has a LOT of love to give his new family! He's now fully vetted and ready for his forever home. He's firmly in the medium size range at 44 lbs and would love to spend 2026 and beyond with YOU! 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)

Story
LINDA is an adorable 10 month old puppy who's maybe heeler terrier type mix? She's about fully grown and just hit 30 lbs, so she's a perfect little lapful of love! Sweet and friendly with everyone she's met including other dogs, cats, etc, she's a playful and snuggly pup who will make a great companion. She's fully vetted except for spay and microchip which is scheduled. If she happens to be adopted before that date, it's still included in her adoption fee at our vet. She's adorable, playful and such a friendly pup. Story
Cheerful QUEENIE has smiles for days and is SO happy to be saved from the overcrowded GA shelter she was living in with her young pup. She's a people-friendly young adult and just LOVES to snuggle and play with her red ball or any other toys. She's just a happy, cheerful pup with a great disposition and will make a great addition to most any home. She loves attention so much she can be a little "resource guarding" with it, so no other dogs in the home for her highness; however she has the potential to play with other dogs in a park like setting. She has not had any cat interactions yet since she's been with us. Her favorite things are squeaky toys and playing fetch - If it were up to her she'd carry one during her walks! She is the favorite dog of our dog walker and loves jaunts around the neighborhood! She is housebroken, non-destructive, and will be fine with children school age and up. She's very bouncy and jumping when excited, and that not be a good match for younger kids. Story
Miss MAGGIE is a super sweet young pitty mix whose owner moved and can't take her with him to his new place. She's 2 years old, fully vetted, and loves everyone (people including kids, and other dogs) and most everyone loves her (except a few dogs or cats who are not as big a fan of playing as she is). She loves giving kisses and and adores the kids in her foster home. She has lots of energy and would be a great walking or running buddy. She LOVES the kids in her foster home, too. She is 100% a volunteer favorite at the rescue! She can be a little resource guardy, so her foster makes sure to always feed all the dogs in the home separately, which is a good idea for ALL dogs, honestly. Maggie is the real deal and will make someone a perfect addition to their family! Story
HUGO is a big handsome brindle boy (~3), maybe some plott hound terrier in him, maybe part baby seal? :D We've been taking him to events lately and he's done GREAT with all of the dogs there - he does fine out and about with other dogs but NOT in his home. So he's a no-other-dog dog. He's been with us for over 2 years now - where are our bigger dog people at?! He LOVES his people and he really, REALLY loves his stuffies! He's fully vetted and a hefty boy at around 75 lbs. A gentle giant! He enjoys his walks with volunteers and is great on a leash, as well. (His adoption fee is partially sponsored by someone who wanted to adopt him but wasn't able to due to size restrictions in their complex!) 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). Story
KINGSTON is big handsome brindle boy, maybe some plott hound terrier in him - who's estimated about 3. He's a sweet bigger dog who's fully vetted. (His and his brother Hugo's adoption fees are partially sponsored by someone who was interested in adopting one of the two but wasn't able to because of apartment complex size restrictions, but saw they were such sweet dogs!) He does great with many other dogs (females especially - males he can be selective with but we can do a meet) and is always a favorite at events we take him to. Our dog-walking volunteers also love Kingston. He's a BIG BOY at 91 lbs but is overall chill and super sweet. He's been waiting for over 2 years for one of the big-dog people to come along and take him to his forever home. A foster-to-adopt is also available for Kingston.
