Story
Felix is an adult neutered male Pit Bull Terrier. Felix is a friendly fellow who loves everyone. He came in a bit of a mess - his ears were very infected, he was very skinny and he just didn’t feel good. After some basic vet care, good food and care - Felix is doing so much better. Felix is a good walker and is housebroken. Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 12 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. If you would like to be considered for any of the Path to Home dogs, please email us. Please do not call the Shelter regarding Path Home animals - they do not have any information. Email us at info@vol4animals.org regarding this program.  Here is the adoption process:   To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier.   Thank you for considering a homeless animal.September 11, 2024, 8:23 am

Story
URGENT SITUATION! PLEASE MEET SAMI! Sami is a sweet senior at 9 years old. She is urgently looking for a long term foster family which may lead to an eventual adoption for the right family. Sami's life is up in the air & she needs a special family to give her a home until it gets figured out. Sami's mom has been living in a medical facility, hoping to one day be reunited with Sami, but that is looking like a very long way off, if ever. Because of this, Sami's needs are being financially taken care of by mom. Sami is true couch potato She does not like walks or spending too much time outdoors. She goes out to do her business & heads back inside to her couch. It is a MUST that Sami be allowed on the couch as this has always been her favorite spot. Sami also loves splashing in the kiddie pool. Please see how wonderful Sami is in the attached videos: https://youtu.be/tk82T1Be0Vc https://youtu.be/zRU3Ut2kpHo Sami loves people & is very affectionate. Sami must be the only animal. If you can offer sweet Sami a place to stay with a couch & lots of love, please email us asap at fanabalasanctuary@gmail.com. * INDOOR HOME ONLY.

Bo is a 5 year old special needs guy who has a disc issue with his spine. Because of this, he would do best in a home without stairs or with limited stairs. Bo requires a special harness to help him, although he is able to get up & down ok, and walks, his gait can be wobbly. You must be dedicated to Bo receiving the necessary supplements & care he will need throughout his life. Bo loves kitties! He gets along with doggies, but would do best with laidback dogs who do not play rough. Bo had allergy tests. It was determined tat he is allergic to dust mites & bees. Story
MEET SCRAPPY: Scrappy was found wandering in a local park and he is settling in well at his foster home. He gets excited when greeting someone he knows, but generally has a sweet, calm demeanor. He seems happiest when he can climb into the lap of a familiar person. He may be a bit shy at first, but he warms up quickly with a gentle approach and snacks! His foster family has a curious cat, and while they have not been formally introduced, he mostly ignores her and other small critters he has seen on his walks. He has not been around children or other dogs thus far. Scrappy is well crate-trained and is quickly learning not to pull when walking on a leash. He prefers not to venture too far from home-base on his walks, but that may change as he becomes more comfortable in a new home. Scrappy is up to date on all vaccines & vet care. He will be neutered before adoption. If you would like to make this sweet, loving, affectionate guy a permanent part of your family, please reach out to us asap at fanabalasanctuary@gmail.com for an application. Adoption fee applies. Scrappy is located in Rochester, New York, but can travel for the right family. * INDOOR HOME ONLY.
