Story
Loki is a sweet boy who has had a rough start in life. From being dumped in rural areas multiple times, to almost landing in the pound, he has seen it all. He is a good boy. Like a really good boy. He knows his name, basic commands, and is housebroken! That is AMAZING for a dog who was never truly loved. He needs some leash work, however he is very treat motivated and is sure to be a good learner. We have not tested him with cats, yet he loves to play with other dogs through the fence and has shown signs of healthy play!

Story
💔 KARMA DOESN’T NEED JUST ANYBODY. SHE NEEDS THE RIGHT SOMEBODY.If you walk past Karma’s kennel, you may hear her bark or growl and think, Lord, that dog is mean. But the truth is, our girl is scared to death in that kennel. The noise, strangers approaching her space, and not knowing what is fixing to happen next can overwhelm her. When Karma gets scared, she tries to make whatever is frightening her back up and leave her alone. We aren’t going to sugarcoat her behavior, because finding the right home matters too much. Karma has a history of guarding and being very protective of her home and her people. She can be selective about people, and she can display aggressive behavior in certain situations. Karma is NOT appropriate for a home with children. That is a firm requirement, not something we are willing to experiment with. But please don’t mistake that for Karma being an aggressive dog toward everything around her. Karma is not simply “dog aggressive.” She can do well with other dogs. Like plenty of dogs, however, she may not like every dog she meets, and proper, slow introductions are important. Any resident dogs would need to be considered individually and introduced appropriately before we could determine whether they are a good match.🐱 Karma also needs to be cat tested. We do not currently want to label her as cat-friendly or not cat-friendly until that evaluation has been done.🐓 According to Karma’s previous owner, she did well with chickens and other farm animals. We think that history is important to share, especially for someone with a farm or property, but it is owner-reported information rather than a guarantee. Any animals in a potential home still need to be considered individually and introduced safely. And then there is the Karma we get to see when she finally feels safe. ❤️Get this girl out of that kennel, hand her one of her beloved toys, give her a little time, and goodness gracious—you start seeing somebody completely different. She plays, takes treats, interacts with people, and once she decides you’re safe, she can turn into the biggest ol’ baby you’ve ever seen. She’ll crawl into your lap, melt against you, and lick you half to death. That’s what makes this girl so heartbreaking. Karma has already lost two homes. We don’t want to send her into a third one simply because somebody feels sorry for her and has a big heart.Karma needs experience. We would love to reach a professional trainer, behavior professional, experienced handler, or somebody with genuine experience handling fearful, protective, guarding, or reactive dogs. She needs somebody with the time to let her decompress, earn her trust, work with her, and manage situations appropriately instead of expecting everything to be perfect in a week.Karma may never be the dog who wants every stranger walking through her front door, and her future person needs to be okay with that. She needs someone who understands that being protective of her people and home requires responsible management—not somebody who ignores her warning signs or puts her into situations where she’s set up to fail.We don’t need a hundred applications for Karma. We need ONE right one.Someone without children. Someone experienced. Someone patient. Someone willing to take introductions slowly. Someone who has the time and knowledge to give this scared girl the stability she’s been missing. Please don’t ask about Karma simply because her story makes you sad. Ask about her because you’ve read the difficult parts too, understand exactly what we’re telling you, and still believe you have the experience and home she needs. And if that isn’t you, please share her with somebody who might be. Share her with trainers, behavior professionals, experienced dog handlers, farmers, and that person everybody seems to call when a dog needs a little more understanding.Karma has already been somebody’s dog twice. We are going to do everything we can to make sure the next person who tells our girl “you’re home” gets to mean it forever. ❤️🐾━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━🐾 KARMA AT A GLANCE🚫 NO CHILDREN🐕 Can do well with dogs — proper introductions required🐱 Needs to be cat tested🐓 Previous owner reports she did well with chickens and other farm animals🧠 Professional or experienced handler strongly preferred🏡 Protective/guarding tendencies require knowledgeable management🤝 Can be selective about people and needs time to build trust🧸 VERY toy motivated🦴 Treat motivated❤️ Once she trusts you, there’s a big ol’ baby underneath all that fear━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━🐾 WAVERLY ANIMAL SHELTER 🐾📍 108 Young RoadWaverly, TN 37185📞 931-296-7319🕐 Shelter HoursMonday: 8:00 AM–4:30 PMTuesday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–1:00 PMFriday: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM🍽️ Closed for lunch Monday & Friday from 12:00–1:00 PM.🐶 DOG ADOPTION FEESFixed: $100Not Fixed: $125🐱 CAT ADOPTION FEESFixed: $85Not Fixed: $100📩 Interested in Karma? Story
💔 WE KEEP WAITING TO WRITE HARPER’S HAPPY UPDATE. THIS IS NOT IT. SHE IS STILL HERE. 💔Nothing new has happened for Harper, and that is exactly what hurts so badly. There has been no adoption. No family waiting at the front desk with a leash and a collar. No excited ride home. No soft bed waiting in a quiet room. No picture of Harper stretched out on somebody’s couch after finally realizing she never has to sleep inside a kennel again.Harper is just still here. She is still waking up to the sound of dogs barking all around her. She is still watching people walk past her kennel. She is still getting excited when somebody stops to speak to her, hoping maybe this time they stopped because they came for her. She is still soaking up every little bit of attention our volunteers can give her because, for a few minutes, she gets to pretend she belongs to somebody. Then that time ends. The volunteer has to go home, Harper has to go back inside, and her kennel door closes again. We take more pictures. We write another post. We tell people what a good girl she can be when she is away from all the noise and stress. We hope the right person will finally see her. Then another day passes, the shelter gets quiet, the lights go down, and Harper is still here.We do not know every detail of Harper’s life before she came to us, but we know it was not the life she deserved. We believe she was bred, used, bullied by other dogs, and forced to defend herself instead of being protected. She learned how to survive because nobody ever showed her that she was safe. Nobody taught her that hands could be gentle, that food would always come, or that she did not have to stay ready to protect herself.Harper came to us carrying scars that cannot all be seen in a photograph.Because of what she has lived through, Harper needs to be the one and only pet in her home. She cannot live with other animals. The shelter environment has only made that struggle harder. Every bark, every dog passing her kennel, and every bit of commotion keeps her on edge. The longer she stays, the harder it becomes for her to believe that she can finally put her guard down. But please do not read that and decide Harper is a bad dog.Harper is not bad. Harper is a dog who survived bad things. When you get her away from the kennels and give her one-on-one attention, you begin to see the real Harper. She is energetic, playful, silly, and so full of life. She loves toys. She loves being petted. She loves having somebody’s attention all to herself. She can be hyper and excited because those moments outside of her kennel mean everything to her. For a little while, she gets to forget the barking, the concrete, and the metal door waiting for her.Sometimes we wonder if the gentle hands of our volunteers are the first loving touch Harper has ever truly known. We wonder if the time she spends outside with somebody is the first time she has ever felt like more than a dog who was expected to breed, survive, and defend herself. That is what makes this so heartbreaking. The shelter may honestly be the safest place Harper has ever lived. The meals come every day. Nobody is using her. Nobody is allowing other dogs to bully her. She has toys, people who know her name, and volunteers who genuinely love her.But a shelter should never be the best life a dog ever knows.A kennel should not be the first place Harper ever felt safe, and it certainly should not be the last place she ever calls home. The best moments of her entire life should not happen during the few minutes a volunteer can take her outside. She deserves to know what it feels like when the person petting her does not have to leave and go home without her.She deserves her own bed that nobody can take away from her. She deserves toys scattered across a living room floor. She deserves to hear somebody say, “Come on, Harper, let’s go home,” and finally realize they mean her home too.She deserves to fall asleep without dogs barking on every side of her. She deserves to wake up and see the same person who tucked her in the night before. She deserves to learn that a closed door does not always mean she has been left behind.Harper does not need a home filled with other animals. She does not need a busy life or a crowd of people. She needs a quiet, secure place where she can be somebody’s only girl. She needs a person who understands that love will not erase her past overnight, but patience, routine, safety, and kindness can help her build a future. She does not need everybody reading this post to choose her.She only needs one.One person who sees more than the words “only pet.” One person who understands that Harper did not choose the things that happened to her. One person willing to look past the scars left by a life she never deserved and see the loving, playful girl still waiting underneath them.Somewhere, there has to be a home with no other animals and an empty place on the couch. Somewhere, there has to be a person who needs Harper just as much as Harper needs them.We just need that person to find her before the shelter takes any more of the light out of her eyes.Until then, we will keep doing everything we can. We will keep bringing her toys. We will keep taking her outside. We will keep sitting beside her, loving her, and reminding her that she matters. We will keep sharing her face and telling her story, even when it feels like nobody is listening. But tonight, when everybody goes home, Harper will still be here. She will still sleep inside the shelter. And tomorrow morning, she will wake up and wait all over again. 💔Please do not let “still here” become the ending of Harper’s story.🔗 Harper’s Petfinder Listing:https://humphreyshumane.org/harper🔗 View All of Our Adoptable Animals:https://humphreyshumane.org/petfinder💛 ADOPTION FEES🐶 Fixed Dogs: $100🐶 Not Fixed Dogs: $125🐱 Fixed Cats: $85🐱 Not Fixed Cats: $100📍 Waverly Animal ShelterHumphreys County Humane Society108 Young RoadWaverly, TN 37185📞 Shelter: 931-296-7319📧 Email: animals@hchswaverly.comIf you are unable to reach the shelter during business hours, please contact:📞 Jennifer Crossett: 253-209-4925Shelter Hours:Monday and Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PMClosed for lunch: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PMTuesday through Thursday: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PMClosed on government holidays.

She is up to date on all vaccines. She is not spayed. 5-6 years old and weighs 48 lbs. Pitty is fawn/tan colored. Loves other dogs not so good with cats or chickens.
