Story
Dog selective. Belle is in need of a new foster home as a member of the house has become very ill. Belle does not chew on shoes though she does like to carry them around when she gets excited. Belle was born in our care on April 1st 2017 to Momma Orla. She and her siblings were named after Beauty and the Beast characters. She and her 'sister' didn't get along so the family felt she would be better with a new family. She did great with her two Chihuahua siblings, and may do well with a male dog. She loves to give kisses and plays hard on toys. One of her favorite past times is to bird watch. Cats and kids are unknown at this time. She is currently in boarding and we need her out!Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption donation is $300.00 for dogs over 1 year old and $350 with a $50.00 spay / neuter deposit for puppies/dogs under 1 year old. Story
Kenzo continues to amaze us every day. He has been putting in all the work, hoping that is forever family is out there looking for him!! He is doing great with commands. He just about has them all down. He's extremely treat motivated and even more motivated for belly rubs. He loves to love and be loved. He's so gentle with his kisses and cuddles but watch out for his zoomies! He's really enjoying being outside in this weather and sometimes it takes a little convincing to get him to come in. He's doing great on walks and just needs more leash practice. He's doing so well on potty training and he's almost there! He will usually let you know when he has to go, he's just quiet about it. His ability to share space with cats is slowly progressing. If someone was willing to continue to work with him, he would do great. He genuinely just wants to be with you and have all your attention. He's been great around my preschool aged nephews and our female dog. I really hope someone sees him and just knows he'd be the perfect fit for them --Letter from Kenzo's Foster Mom Kenzo is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN. Story
It’s impossible not to love sweet little Mandi. She enjoys her time in the sun while we’re working away in our yard and garden. She is so gentle on leash and has done so well making eye contact and learning basic commands. She also doesn't doordart, which shows how determined she is to be with her family instead of dashing away. And she loves munching on fruits and veggies with her foster brothers. She couldn’t be more gentle when taking a treat!! ***** Meet Mandi! We believe Mandi to be about 6 months old. She spent a day following a mail person walking their route. When they had to drive off, Mandi sat in the middle of the street all sad. Knowing a friend that was in rescue, they called and asked if anything could be done. ABSOLUTELY! We coordinated with volunteers to pick up and hold her until the end of the work day. Sherri spent the afternoon calling and trying to find an emergency foster home. Like every shelter in the area, we were full. Of course our village came through for this little angel. Her rescuer (THANK YOU Amanda!) drove her to meet Miss Sherri. She was checked for a second time for a chip and we still did not find one. Mandi and Sherri had a mini road trip to pick up emergency essential supplies and finally drop her off at her foster home (THANK YOU Carrie & family!). Mandi is doing well in her foster home. They said for a puppy that was running on the streets that she is behaving really well. She is an absolute sweetheart and loves scratches and cuddles. We can't believe no one is looking for this sweet girl, but here we are. Mandi is looking for a family, and we promised her it would be an amazing one! Mandi is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN. Story
Who is looking for a Gentle Giant in a compact body? At 55lbs, Bruce is the perfect 'small' sized large dog. Bruce was a stray that turned up at someone's house and a neighbor took him in trying to find his family. Sadly no one has stepped forward for this boy. He is a very sweet boy who is very cautious of noises, barks, cars etc. He is learning to sit on command and is working on his leash manners. He hasn't shown any aggression and is generally a slow easy-going guy. He enjoys laying down with his foster family and being petted. He likes to run down the deck stairs into the backyard, around to the other side, and back up. When he runs around in the yard, he lopes around playfully, which he didn't do 2 weeks ago! He is starting to open up for us. We are still learning about Bruce as he begins to come out of his shell, but his foster dad says, 'I can see signs of a great dog!' Bruce is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN.
