Story
Tank is believed to be a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier / Shepherd mix. He is a 55 lb neutered male who just got a new rabies vaccine and other important vaccines. He is in good health with no known issues. He came to me at the end of April 2025. He was essentially abandoned so I took him in as a foster. After being here a few weeks, I can say he is a super sweet and lovable dog who likes to follow you throughout the house, cuddle with you any chance he gets, and loves attention, pets and belly rubs. I have a 7 year old dog named Kernel who Tank generally gets along well with, cuddling him and giving him lots of kisses. However at certain times Tank has issues with Kernel and precedes to pick a fight with Kernel. Tank also got into a fight with a neighbors dog. So I think Tank would be happier in a single dog household. I am unsure of how he is with cats or kids as I have neither. Tank is also reactive with squirrels on walks. He needs a stable home, training and love.

Story
Grover is a 50-pound, 2 1/2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. Grover loves playing with other dogs and would love a companion who is high energy. He also enjoys walks and playtime with humans and playing with toys by himself. He loves playing tug-of-war, and sometimes will even treat his owner to a good game of catch. He’s so talented he can even catch treats! Grover would not appreciate a cat companion in his new household. Grover is in Camp K-9 at the Kentucky State Reformatory where he has learned his basic commands and manners. He is crate trained, and housetrained. Grover’s handler describes him as smart and loving, but unfortunately it takes time for him to warm up to new people. So he would need someone who would have the patience to get to be his best buddy. Grover’s handler had this to say about him ~ “Once he loves you, he will always love you. He will be right for your side through everything.” Might you be the one who wins his heart? Story
Sampson is 6 years old and a super sweet boy. He has a lot of energy but will sleep most of the day unless you want to play with him. He loves to go for walks/runs/hikes and play fetch. His favorite toy is his chuckit ball. He is house trained and knows basic commands. He trains very easily and is extremely loyal. The reason we need to rehome him is because we have an infant baby that he has barked at several times. Sampson has never shown aggression to any person. He loves when guests come visit him or when he meets someone on a walk. He does need to be the only dog in the home. Unknown on cats. He has been great with kids over 4ish years old

Story
Meet Mercy! Mercy is a Staffie mix about 2 to 3 years old! Mercy still has puppy energy and loves to run, so a fence is ideal, unless you can give her lots of exercise! Mercy seems to do okay with other dogs, but slow introductions are a must. Mercy would respond well to training! WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT MELANIE COMES WITH FREE TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request!   If you would like to give Mercy a forever home, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org. MERCY'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    January 19, 2025, 9:03 pm
