Story
I've had Apollo since he was six weeks old. He's grown up in the house with my Pug and my Cat. He loves people but he's not real fond of animals he doesn't know. He's an XL American Bully. He's a great watchdog. He needs a big yard with a privacy fence to run in and burn off energy and get his exercise. He's a very handsome boy. He's now 3 and a half years old. I recently had to move and I do not have a fence and I'm also dealing with some health issues. I just want him to have the life he deserves. He's very smart and has a lot of personality. He's a big boy and very strong, so his new owner has to be able to handle him.

Story
Our sweet girl Pinky is looking for a family to call her own. This one year old American Staffordshire mix came to the Kentucky Humane Society from another shelter. She soon won over hearts with her larger than life ears, pink nose and ridiculously cute smile. Pinky's absolute favorite activity is playing with her stuffy and her people. She loves fetch and tug of war. She's also super smart and knows "sit", "down", "paw" and will do a special "sit pretty" trick for her favorite treats. Pinky's foster family said "This girl is the sweetest thing. Cuddly, loyal, a great companion and buddy." At 36 pounds she's also the perfect size.Pinky only has a few requests for her new home:- Lots of people so that someone can always be with her. Pinky becomes anxious when left alone. She's a good girl in the car and in new places so if you have to go somewhere you can take her with you! She really needs a home where she does not need to be alone.- No other animals. Pinky does fine seeing animals outside of the home but she does not want to share her home with them. She's got so much love to give that you will not even want another animal. Pinky wants to be your one and only.Pinky is also potty-trained, spayed, micro-chipped, and up to date on shots. She's available for adoption or foster to adopt. Stop down at Main Campus to meet her today!

Story
Abby aka Abigail was surrendered to a high kill animal shelter in Texas. We saved this young one from being euthanized for space. Currently she lives with a cat but barks at the cats. She is not around many dogs so a meet in greet would be nice to have to ensure the dogs/cats would get along with her. Abby does pull a little on the leash when she is excited and that is being worked on with her. Abby Loves Tennis Balls and Car Rides. She is energetic so an active family would be the best for her.

Story
Mollie May is a 3-year-old black American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She is currently in Camp K-9 at the Kentucky State Reformatory where she spends her days perfecting her basic commands and manners, and having fun playing and running every day. Mollie Mae has a blast with all of the other dogs in the program. She was surrendered to us because she had a problem with a small dog she was living with, so we would need to do a meet and greet if she was to be in a home with another dog. She would also thrive as an only dog. No cats please! But Mollie Mae would do well with children. She is sweet and eager to please, and is ready to find her forever home.

Story
Sampson is 6 years old and a super sweet boy. He has a lot of energy but will sleep most of the day unless you want to play with him. He loves to go for walks/runs/hikes and play fetch. His favorite toy is his chuckit ball. He is house trained and knows basic commands. He trains very easily and is extremely loyal. The reason we need to rehome him is because we have an infant baby that he has barked at several times. Sampson has never shown aggression to any person. He loves when guests come visit him or when he meets someone on a walk. He does need to be the only dog in the home. Unknown on cats. He has been great with kids over 4ish years old

Meet Spike! Spike is a 3 year old Pit bull mix. Spike will when you over with his big smile and awesome personality. Spike loves to play, and gets the ZOOMIES! Spike needs a gentle, calm, but firm hand to show him the way and train him. He does well with other dogs, but prefer a calmer dog. Spike needs a home with no children  (due to energy/playfulness) and without cats.  If you would like to make Spike a part of your family, please fill out an adoption application at www.barktownrescue.org SPIKE'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170   Adoption Fee: $170   *Due to Covid 19 restrictions some of our new intakes vet scheduling has been delayed. We will still go ahead and schedule your meet and greet even if all the vetting needed has not been completed. Once vetting is complete the approved adopter will be able to take their dog/cat home to their forever home. The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    May 27, 2023, 9:04 pm

Meet Mercy! Mercy is a Staffie mix about 2 to 3 years old! Mercy still has puppy energy and loves to run, so a fence is ideal, unless you can give her lots of exercise! Mercy seems to do okay with other dogs, but slow introductions are a must. Mercy would respond well to training! If you would like to give Mercy a forever home, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org.
