Story
We adopted Dexter (Dex) when he was about 6 months old in 2016. He was a lanky pup, with a goofy personality. At the time, it was just me and my husband and we had lots of time to devote to the little guy. Dex has been a part of the family for 6+ years. He was great with my two little babies when they were young. He learned to love his cat brother Leo. He had lots of fun at the dog park with other dogs and got along well. As my two children have gotten older (2 & 5) and my ex-husband moved out, Dexter has struggled to adapt to the change and chaos. Dex is like a completely different dog when the kids aren’t home, he’s calm and snuggly and well behaved. I have watched over the last 6 months as Dex’s anxiety has gotten so much worse, and he’s even been nipping towards the kids which is totally new behavior. I truly believe Dex would thrive in a quieter environment, with a family that can give him more one on one time and lots of love, with less chaos.

Story
KD has a long story that we know nothing about; he came to TJO as a stray and has had six years of experiences and adventures before landing with us. KD is a friendly dog who is strong and has developed some difficult habits that need support and positive training to overcome.OTHER PETS: KD is interested in other dogs but can be dog selective and lacks social skills. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: KD is going to need a lot of support from his owner as he works on his behavior. Someone who has experience working with dogs using positive reinforcement to teach important life skills would be ideal. Consulting with a qualified, positive professional would be helpful. [Very Experienced]KIDS: While KD is a friendly dog, he would do best living in an adults only home. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: KD is a strong dog and will need daily exercise; even as he learns loose leash walking. Multiple shorter outings will help KD have more positive experiences and over time he will be able to do longer outings. KD is a dog who will be a great walking buddy with the right support from his owner. [Great Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: KD is an older dog who knows sit and paw but hasn't yet learned loose leash walking, can pull on the leash, and can be mouthy, all of which can be helped with positive reinforcement training. Around other dogs he lacks social skills and can be a bit of a bossy-pants. Positive reinforcement will help KD bond with his new owner and foster trust between them; it may be beneficial to seek a veterinary behaviorists for advice, as well as create e a plan that would be tailored to KD. Story
Meet Winter (Winnie for short)! This 2-year old petite and unique red-merle beauty came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray. You can’t miss Winnie’s icicle eyes. In fact, she is vision impaired and will need 1-2 visits to the ophthalmologist every year to continue to monitor the condition of her eyes. But despite her limited vision, Winnie navigates the world with an endearing curiosity, using her other senses, like that perfect pink little nose, to take it all in. ♥ Despite her polar beauty, Winter has the warmest heart! In fact, with Winnie, you won’t mind the snow, the frigid temperatures, or the short days and long nights…just grab a fluffy blanket to settle in for a cuddle sesh! Because Winnie uses her mouth to feel out her environment, older or no kids would be best for this special girl. Winter’s top 3 priorities: A family who is willing to create consistent spaces and routines to make Winnie feel safe and at home. A family who is patient and kind and will allow Winnie to take her time really learning how to “dog”, including snuggling and cuddling. A family who is willing to take on her ongoing medical care, which includes 1-2 exams at a veterinary ophthalmologist every single year. February 20, 2024, 7:56 am

Story
Meet Rose Nylund! ADOPTER or FOSTER desperately needed! This Golden Girl has waited almost 2 years in a shelter to find her people and is ready to live out her golden years in a warm bed surrounded by love. She was held as evidence as part of an animal cruelty case, but she’s now free and clear to find a home all her own. And boy, does she deserve it! Rose is a special kind of special! She is seriously the exact kind of dog everyone says they want and she is easy to love. She has an innocent and wiggly warmth to her and at 7-years young is still playful and full of life. And despite what she has been through, this Oreo Blizzard still has pep in her step and would make a great companion for a lucky family. Rose is a full-figured black beauty who has a sophisticated velvet and stormy coat and curves on curves on curves on curves. She would be happy to lose a few lbs in her new home and would love some low-key walks before snuggling on the couch. And those eyes! Be still my heart. Rose is in good health, walks great on leash, knows basic commands, and loves to love. She knows how to keep it sassy and classy all at the same time. And her mature age means she is housetrained, non-destructive, and content to simply be adored. Rose has said “no thanks” to cats and small dogs but has definitely liked some bigger male dogs. Due to her long-stay in a stressful shelter environment, we believe Rose’s ideal first stop would be as the only pet in an adult-only home to give her valuable time to decompress from what she’s been through. In return, she will give you love, loyalty, snuggles, and a deep sense of gratitude. We can’t wait until she looks back on her plight as just another nonsensical story about St. Olaf. Due to her size and lack of history, older kids would be best for this midnight-hued and kind-hearted spirit. Rose Nylund’s top 3 priorities: A family. Seriously, that’s it. After so many months behind bars, this girl deserves a chance! A family that will give her quiet time to decompress from shelter life and go at her own pace. A warm bed to call her own where Rose can relax and feel safe and loved. February 20, 2024, 7:56 am

Story
Bzzzz - Meet Honeybee! This 3-year old bully came to us after her owner could no longer care for her. Honeybee, or Bee for short, has a super gentle nature and an even sweeter smile (if that’s possible!). She is a soft pup, inside and out, and her pretty pink skin and heart shaped nose make her a standout in any hive. Bee was previously used for breeding and has had 3 litters in 3 years, but NO MORE. She has been spayed and is ready to live her life as the center of someone’s universe. We assume Bee wasn’t introduced to much in the world because she’s nervous in every new situation and just wants to submissively retreat to someplace safe. But she’s been a brave bee in her foster home and loves consistency. Though shy, she seeks attention from those she trusts and loves being close to her people. Like the stickiest duct tape, Bee is an uber-velcro dog and will gladly be your shadow at all times. Bee has a moderate energy level and totally goes with the flow. She’s up for a strenuous walk or hike but is equally happy to chill at home. She has stellar leash manners, and she would make any show dog jealous with her loose-leash prancing as she buzzes from flower to flower for all the good sniffing. And is an ace at catching treats with soft lips! Like the sweetest honeycomb, Bee ignores the cat in her foster home and has been great with dogs. She just needs a quiet and patient home where her new family of beekeepers will allow her world to remain small as she acclimates to living the good life. In return, Bee will provide love, loyalty, affection, and snuggles galore. Due to Bee’s nervousness, older kids would be best for this sweet bee. Bee’s top priorities: 1. A family with patience, who will allow Bee to explore new situations at her pace. 2. A family who wants a cuddle muffin and craves the closeness of a velcro dog. 3. A family who has a cheerful willingness to help this sweet queen feel at ease in situations that stress her (which may mean avoiding certain situations).February 20, 2024, 7:56 am

Story
Meet Cashew! We’re NUTS about this 1-year old teeny tiny goober who came to us after being abandoned by his owner. At only 25-lb, Cashew is the size of a bite-sized Snickers bar or a buttered popcorn jellybean, but more than makes up for it in loveable personality. We could stare into his soulful puppy eyes for days. And those ears…next level! He is said to be a pittie and pug mix, but to us he’s just the perfect blend of pup. Ever watch a squirrel frantically hide its nuts? There’s something comically relatable about it. Just as we stash away our favorite treats, these little critters squirrel away theirs. It reminds us of our own quirks, doesn’t it? And Cashew has his own quirks. Coming into our rescue after being juggled into multiple homes (through no fault of his own), Cashew needs a laid-back family who is patient and willing to go slow to create a safe environment. But it will be worth the effort! Cashew is shy but acclimates quickly with consistency, LOVES to work his brain and bond with obedience training, and has sooo much love to give. He quickly learns commands and focusing his brain helps him reset when he’s feeling uncomfortable. It feels good when something so ordinary surprises us in the most delightful ways and Cashew is no exception. It’s like the universe wanted to add a fun twist to our nut mix…and here he is! Cashew has really come out of his shell as an appropriately curious and energetic 1-year old who wants to spend time with his humans and 4-legged foster siblings. Other dogs give him confidence and he’s also great with cats. And this sweet miniature man curls up like a baby deer right beside his humans to snuggle, fitting his neck into the crook of yours for a perfect fit. He’ll Cashew Later (see what we did there?). Due to his size and lack of history, older kids would be best for this peanut M&M. Cashew’s top 3 priorities: 1. A patient and loving family willing to give Cashew the time he needs to come out of his shell. 2. A family willing to continue obedience training to bond with Cashew and give him a productive way to work his brain. 3. A family who loves to snuggle and will happily cozy up to Cashew on his terms to make him feel safe and loved.February 20, 2024, 7:56 am
