You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. River is a young male Staffy/Jack Russell Terrier mix puppy with a heart as soft as the toy pile he sleeps in. And yes— he sleeps with his toys . All of them. When River curls up for a nap, he looks like he’s become part of his own little stuffed-animal family, and it’s about as cute as it sounds. This gentle, goofy boy LOVES toys more than anything and carries that joy into everything he does. River is playful and affectionate, happy to climb into your lap for pets after a good play session. He’s still discovering the world and hasn’t even figured out that barking is a thing yet—so he’s been a pretty quiet little guy so far. River is friendly with adult humans and dogs his own size, does well in the car, and is soaking up life like the puppy he is. With proper socialization, he’s expected to adapt beautifully to new situations and continue growing into a confident, well-rounded dog. If you’re looking for a sweet, toy-loving puppy who will make you smile every single day, River is ready to float straight into your heart and home. River is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 02/20/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame.  Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. Hi!! I'm Penny Jo, but some of my friends call me PJ. I'm a happy, silly girl that just wants love and attention from my person. I LOVE toys, balls, ropes, and bones. When I'm not playing with my toys, I like to take a good cozy nap. I love to go for walks and play outside. I know basic commands like sit, down, shake and ask (bark). Basically, I'm like really smart. I am a polite girl and do tend to have difficulty when others aren't as polite with their introductions. So, a slow controlled introduction with other dogs works best for me! Overall, I am an awesome dog that wants to please her person. We adopted Xena from a shelter almost 6 years ago. She is a great dog and is great with people and children. She is dog reactive but has had dog friends such as my parents daschunds. We just had a baby. She likes long walks and mostly sleeps and wants snack all day lol. She is crate trained and house trained. Between myself being in the military and the baby, we cannot dedicate as much time to Xena as we would like. We would like to find her a better home with a person who would give her all the love she deserves.
