Story
Hi!! I'm Maggie!! I love to be outside. I like to go on walks but might need some leash training as I like to pull. I like to explore and sniff out my surroundings. I'm an independent girl who doesn't demand a lot of attention. I would love a fenced in yard with plenty of room to roll and wiggle in. At the end of the day, I enjoy cuddling with my human and being told how pretty I am. When you have me, I don't understand why you would need another dog and might get a little jealous.

If you are interested in CHUNK or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam4.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. Meet CHUNK! Saying he is handsome, is stating the obvious. He is also sweet, loyal, funny, and full of kisses. He is a true companion. CHUNK is incredibly smart and has a giant desire to please. He is the perfect pup for someone who wants a young dog, but would like to skip the tiny puppy training days. He knows not to potty in the house. He spends most of his days sunning in the back yard and hanging with his foster moms and siblings. At night he likes to hang out in the kitchen while dinner is being cooked, snuggling on the couch and curling up on his doggie bed while his people are binge watching their favorite shows. CHUNK does great with other pups! He is respectful of all of his foster siblings and truly enjoys their company. He also goes to doggie daycare where he has an exemplary report card. CHUNK is a moderate energy boy and would thrive most in a home with a yard to play in or with a forever parent who will take him to daycare and/or the dog park regularly He self entertains with toys like a champ and enjoys long naps after playtime. He loves chewing on his toys and is a good car passenger. If you are searching for an affectionate, adorable, genius of a dog, CHUNK is the new family member for you! He is ready to make a lifetime of memories with her forever family. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
I was dropped off in the neighborhood and on a cold rainy day in January. I went to house to house and stared in peoples doors for over a week. Nobody wanted to let me in. Finally one day a nice lady took my picture peering in her front door and sent it to this rescue that took me in. FosterMom worked very hard to get me healthy and put my weight back on and complete all my vetting needs. when she takes me to Petsmart, I have to say hello to everybody there, practically dragging her around the store. I absolutely love people and love kids! I am a bit of a princess and while I don’t like to get wet or my feet muddy, I also don’t like to share my attention with other pets in the house. I am looking for a home and I can call all my own or I get all the attention and all the love I promise I will make it worthwhile and return just as much love to you. I don’t like being outside very much, but I sure do love a car ride and sit beside the car every day hoping Foster mom will take me somewhere. I have perfect house manners and I am very quiet. My foster home is very busy with a lot of dogs and so I am kept separate. I would sure love to be adopted so that I can be included instead of separated. I really miss being around my people for all their activities. I promise to snore softly in your ear if you just give me a chance.

If you are interested in PAXTON or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to chanda.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. Hi there! I’m PAXTON. I am 2 years old and love life every single day. Everyone I meet gushes all over me and says things like “Oh my gosh, he is the most handsome dog I’ve ever seen.” or “He is so cute he doesn’t even look like he can be real.” or “Wow he is 10 times more adorable than his photos.” I’m not really sure what all that means, but they seem to like me and give me tons of pets. I love pets. Let me tell you about some of my other favorite things. Food...I love food and treats. I will do absolutely anything for a treat. Foster mom says that makes me easier to train. She says I am super duper smart. I think learning things is fun. I know sit, down, kennel, give kisses, and fetch. I’m getting better at dropping it after I fetch. I will always drop it for a treat! I also know that my crate is a safe place so I am happy to hang out there when foster mom is away from home. I know outside is the place to potty; I never ever potty in the house. I love playing with other dog friends, snuggling with them on dog beds, and just having them around me. I hang out with big dogs, small dogs, boy dogs, and girl dogs…I want to be friends with everyone. I’m always up for playtime, but understand other dogs don’t want to play all the time. As long as they tell me they don’t want to play, I say “that’s cool” and entertain myself or lay down and chew a bone. I’m not a mind reader though so other dogs have to tell me they don’t want to play for me to understand. I like to play for maybe 30 minutes at a time, then it’s time for me to catch a nap. I’m a big heavy boy so long endurance isn’t my thing…no marathons are in my future. Leave those to border collies and aussies. I love car rides. I jump right in foster mom’s SUV and she says I get an A+ for my car riding behavior. I also think going for walks is the most fun thing in the universe. Foster mom has been practicing my walking skills a bunch. She says my impulse control has gotten a million times better (I get excited when I see other pups out on the town) but she still always gets me to focus on her when we see other dog friends out on strolls. She says this is something that I will continue to practice. When it is super hot outside, I get pooped pretty quickly on our walks. A mile or so is PLENTY for me in the heat. We have many visitors in my foster home. I like every single person I meet. People say I sound scary when I bark at the front door or in my crate. There isn’t anything I can do about it…that’s just my voice and I can’t change it. I don’t want people to be afraid of me. I’m a friendly guy. I’m also told that the noises I make when I play can sound scary if you don’t know me. Again, I don’t want to scare anyone, they are happy fun noises, I just can’t change my voice. I think all people of all ages are awesome, but foster mom says its best if I don’t live with little kids because I have a large mouth and sometimes accidentally put it on people when we are playing. I totally don’t mean to. I haven’t met any kitty cats in my foster home, but, if you think yours is the perfect forever family for me, please submit your application even if you have feline family members! If your application is approved, the folks at Woof River are happy to introduce me to indoor kitty cats and send you videos. Outdoor kitty cats are probably not a good fit. I would probably be tempted to chase them. Chase is a really fun game you know. Basically I have endless affection to give, want to make you smile every day, and want to be an endlessly loyal member of your pack for many years to come. Let’s make happy memories together! PAXTON’s ideal forever home has other resident dogs OR is on where he will be frequently socialized with other dogs and people. His friendly with strangers personality is such an asset, we don’t want him to ever lose it. PAXTON is an incredible dog and his forever family will be beyond blessed to have him. That being said, we don’t think PAXTON is the right fit for your very first dog or your very first large dog. For example, if you have always owned dogs but they have been beagles and cocker spaniels PAXTON isn’t the right guy for you. He deserves a home that is used to large dogs who make large dog noises. It isn’t fair to him if his silly sounds make his family nervous. PAXTON radiates a happy light. We don’t want his light to ever be dimmed. Thanks! Their $490 adoption fee covers the cost of transport to the Knoxville area. For an adoption application on PAXTON click here Please email the completed application to chanda.woofriver@gmail.com. Story
Maverick aka Mavy is another shelter favorite. Mavy is a GREAT dog; he just hasn't found the right home yet. He is besties with Sadie, and they would stay outside and play all day and night if we'd let them. Maverick loves the comfort of a fluffy blanket and being curled up on the couch with his humans. He knows basic commands, loves toys, and is a big fan of treats. He loves, loves loves fetching a ball and and could do this all day. While he loves children, we recommend older kids just because he's a bit of a beast and could knock down a small child because in his mind, he thinks he's a 5-pound lap dog. Mavy needs a home without cats and prefers the company of laid-back female dogs over male dogs. Mavy has been in another shelter a while and we really need to find his forever home. All puppies under 6 months are $200 and all dogs from 6 months to 6 years are $85.00 and up. The adoption fee is dependent on many factors including age, behavior, medical condition and demand. All dogs 7 years and older are free under our Saving Seniors program. We frequently run special and occasionally a dog will be more than the stated fee. Most cats and kittens are $35.00, however there may be instances in which the fee is higher or lower, due to age, behavior, medical condition or demand. With felines, we always have an ""Adopt one, bring another one home for free"" adoption special!
