Story
Meet Ranger Ranger is a big, sweet fellow, about 2 years old. He was found in the forest wandering. A Good Smartian took him in and fostered him, making sure he was safe and fed. His foster Mom searched everywhere and posted everywhere, local animal controls, veterinarian clinics, social media. With no luck finding his family and having to head out of town she surrendered him to us in the hopes we could find him a good home. Ranger is amazing. He looks like an Anatolian Shepherd mix. He is as handsome as they come with a beautiful cream/brown colored thick coat. He weighs about 60 lbs. He is very calm, friendly, and sweet. Ranger is people and dog friendly. We’ll test for cats for potential adopters. Ranger is house-trained too. He walks well on a leash but can be strong. He’ll need a strong person who can hold his leash if something gets his attention. He’ll also need a containment fenced yard. He’s a big, loveable pup with good manners and a wonderful disposition. He’s enjoying our play yards and loves being outside. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. We adopted Zaza from an experienced breeder in Alabama as a puppy. The goal was for her to become an LGD for our chickens, but she was not trained enough or in time. She is 3 years old now. Very sweet and playful - more like a 75 lb lap dog! She's due for another round of shots soon that we will take care of. We can also have her spayed if preferred.

Story
Haven't met a pair of soulful eyes? Miss June was dumped in the rural area of Gainesville to fend for herself. This poor soul roamed the area looking for food, not only for herself but also for the pups she was carrying. Her foster family kept an eye on her and tried to convince her that not all humans are untrustworthy. Miss June did have her puppies at a neighbor's shed, but love prevailed, and June found a warm home where she no longer had to scavenge for meals. Miss June was saved, and so began the lessons showing her that in this house, there were no harsh hands or mean voices, but only soft voices and loving strokes of her fur. Miss June is around two years old and weighs 52 pounds. June is very shy and will need a very patient and loving family. June has been doing great with  crate training. Foster certifys that June is crate and house trained, loves sleeping in her crate and goes in on her own to take naps, they have yet to hear her cry or whimper, and best of all June sleeps in that crate all night. June has yet to have an accident in the house, she has pretty much been a house dog since her spay and she has loved being inside and does great. Her past may have included an unkind man, so she would need to learn to trust if there are men in the household. June won't be an overnight sensation but a work in progress. This dog is longing for a family that dedicates their life to giving a dog like June a forever home. Story
Snoopy was purchased from a breeder who had an accidental litter. He is a fun, sweet, energetic boy who loves being active and snuggling. He is a large guy (over 110lbs at 9 months) we are unsure how much growing he has left. He is wonderful with kids, loves our daughters, and is very gentle with my one year old. He sometimes does not understand his size and needs to be reminded, but he is very food motivated and has done well with training. We love him, but cannot provide everything he needs. We do not currently have a fenced in yard, and he needs a space to run around. So he needs someone who is willing to walk him often and take him to dog parks, or has a fenced in yard for him to run around. We are sad to see him go, but with our family growing, we don’t have the ability to meet his needs in a way for him to thrive.Snoopy is not fixed yet as it was recommended to us by professionals to wait until he was over a year old for growing purposes.
