Story
Daphne is an Anatolian Shepherd and German Shepherd mix, born October 2022.  She is friendly with cats and other dogs. She lives with 14 year old children. Daphne is leash trained and she enjoys being active.  She would love to go on regular walks with you!  She also knows a few commands. Daphne is protective of the house and will probably bark when someone gets close.  She enjoys having her people at home with her or at least another dog in the home to keep her company while you're gone.   She needs a fenced yard so she has a safe place to hang out.  Daphne might appreciate some training or a refresher course once she gets settled in at her new place. The suggested adoption donation for Daphne is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process:  All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note:  We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Meet Ollie (aka Ollie-Bear)! Ollie is a sweet and goofy 3-year-old Anatolian Shepherd/German Shepherd mix who’s ready to find his forever home! This big cuddle bug loves nothing more than snuggling up in bed with his foster mom, but he’s just as happy going for walks or enjoying a relaxing bath. Ollie has a playful, silly side too—he’ll lay right down in the pool on hot days to cool off, chew on squishy pillows like they’re the best toy in the world, and proudly show off his tricks like “shake” and “high-five.” He’s currently working on his kennel training and has made great progress. Since being neutered, he’s learning not to mark, and he’s improving every day! This lovable boy would do wonderfully in a home with other dogs to play with (he is great with dogs of all sizes). If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, and affectionate companion with a dash of goofiness, this lovely gentle giant just might be your perfect match. The adoption fee for Ollie is $400, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.  Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs, Ollie would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that his breed needs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.September 28, 2025, 11:20 am

Story
Boomer is a handsome young English Mastiff (born 2022) looking for a family who would have time to play and snuggle with him.  He's a very sweet and shy guy who will become nervous in new surroundings.  Boomer is mellow and barks only when he needs to, but he becomes anxious when left alone and does not like being in his kennel.  A perfect home for Boomer will have people who would be willing to spend the time needed to help him overcome his anxieties.  He's food motivated, but won't eat when stressed.  Boomer is willing to learn and enjoys training and being around other people.   Boomer is not leash trained because he is nervous about his surroundings.  He needs a 6' fenced yard so he has a place to stretch his legs and get some exercise.  Boomer is cat friendly, but we're not sure about kids. Boomer lives with Achilles now and it would be preferable if Boomer and Achilles could be adopted together.  It is possible they could be seprated. The suggested adoption donation for Boomer is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Story
Meet Mallory, a stunning Belgian Malinois Mix born in July 2017. Mallory has faced challenges in the past that have made her cautious around people, but this has only made her more appreciative of those who show her kindness. While she may take some time to build trust, her loyalty and intelligence shine through once a bond is formed. Mallory is open to the idea of sharing her forever home with a furry companion or two, with the condition that introductions are done thoughtfully to ensure a harmonious living situation for all. While she welcomes the company of dogs, Mallory prefers to be the sole focus and would thrive in a household without human or feline siblings. Are you prepared to embrace this bright and perceptive girl into your family? Take the first step by submitting your application today and discover the true meaning of loyalty! All dogs adopted through Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue receive the invaluable benefit of lifetime free behavior training from our skilled Positive Reinforcement/Relationship-based trainers. For a seamless and successful transition, Mallory will be enrolled in training sessions at the time of adoption and will continue with scheduled sessions post-adoption to ensure her continued growth and well-being. The suggested adoption donation for Mallory is $250. We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Story
Maple is a beautiful female Dane mix (b. Feb 2024) who would love to become part of your family.  It takes her just a little time to trust new people, but she's gained massive amounts of confidence in the time she lived with her foster parents and fur siblings!  She would do best as the only dog in the home.  Maple does well with cats, even if she doesn't entirely understand them. She's potty trained and does well in a kennel overnight, as long as she has enough blankets inside. However, once she gets older, I think this girl would much rather cuddle up in bed with her people. :) Meet Maple Bacon Croissant. This girl is ready to find her forever home! Here are a few things about her… Likes: Soft, comfy things. Beds, blankets, pillows, other furry siblings. You name it, she'll lay on it. Food. Maple will do anything for a biscuit. TOYS. Especially if she can play tug of war with her Golden foster brother, even better. (Dish towels work in a pinch, too!) Dislikes: Swishy pants. They make WAY too much noise. (Maple would also like to point out that this is 2024, not 1980.) :P Slow feeders. How dare her humans make her eat slower! But it's a necessary evil. Gravity. Her foster mom has lost count of times she's rolled straight off the bed or couch! She might be okay with older kids (age 10+) due to her size and energy level at times.  She has done fine with a 4' or 6' fence.  She's also been okay when left out of the crate during the day, no accidents and hasn't chewed anything.   Maple may need to be an only pup - she can be dog selective when it comes to her playmates, so any adopter with a resident dog would likely need several meet and greets to make sure it’s the perfect fit for everyone. We want to find a home with people that will shower her with love and attention. Please give this give cuddle bug a forever home, she deserves the world. The suggested adoption donation for Maple is $475, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life.
