Story
Adopt Me: Lucky Age: 6.5 years Gender: Spayed Female Breed: Pekapoo (Pekinese/Toy Poodle) Weight: 10.6 lbs Location: Humansville, MO Lucky is a sweet and small Pekapoo who came to us from a commercial breeder. She has spent her entire life being passed around from breeder to breeder, meaning she's never had much stability. She's currently in foster care learning how to "dog" and she's doing great! She is learning to go out for potty breaks and gets along great with the other dogs. She is shy so a home that will be patient and give her time is best! Interested in adopting Lucky? Visit www.nmdr.org to submit an adoption application (select Missouri). After submission check email (spam folder too!) for response to set up an adoption appointment. Email bethw@nmdr.org with any questions. We don't allow our pets to fly as cargo or be shipped. Please check your spam folder after submission of application. We respond via email and many responses go into spam. All NMDR dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

Story
Edward is a cuddly, clever little sweetheart who truly shines when he’s with his people. One of his favorite things in the world is burying his nose into you for comfort—and if you stop petting him too soon, don’t worry, he’ll gently paw at you to make sure you continue. Affection is definitely his love language. Edward is incredibly people-oriented and will practically twist himself in half to follow a familiar voice. He loves being talked to, praised, and petted, and he’s perfectly content being passed from person to person for snuggles. When he’s awake, he wants to be part of the family—but when bedtime rolls around, he also appreciates his quiet time to rest and recharge. This sweet boy is playful and expressive with his furry siblings, often pawing at them to invite play and always choosing to curl up next to one of them for naps. He has the cutest habit of squirming onto his back, squeaking, wiggling around, and then drifting off to sleep. Blankets are another true love of Edward’s—he adores every single one and happily burrows into them whenever possible. Edward is smart and communicative. He knows cues like “outside,” “night night,” “potty,” and “EAT,” and will hop to the patio door when he needs to go out (and back to the door when he’s ready to come in). He’s very inquisitive and enjoys investigating both indoors and outdoors, and he absolutely loves soaking up the sun. He rides well in the car, is easy to pick up using a gentle “wait, touch, pick up” routine, and is not a barker. Edward gets along well with both men and women. He has not been around small children yet. Edward has had all of his teeth removed, so he will need soft food or softened kibble for life. He’s a great eater and enjoys hand-fed treats like small pieces of boiled chicken or turkey, as well as yogurt, smashed carrots, and pumpkin. While he’s not big on drinking water, his meals are well-moistened to keep him hydrated. Currently shaved from surgery, Edward seems to enjoy wearing a sweater and will happily bed-hop throughout the day before settling in with his blankets at night. Edward is a gentle, affectionate, and deeply loving companion who will thrive in a home that enjoys close connection, cuddles, and conversation. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow with a big heart, Edward may just be your perfect match. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Tank is a 25-pound, 6-year-old Poodle with a gentle soul who is still learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. He’s taking his time adjusting to new surroundings and is looking for a patient, understanding family who will help him continue building confidence at his own pace. Tank does well with other dogs, especially in a calm, low-key environment. In fact, he may truly thrive with a confident, friendly dog in the home to show him the ropes and help him feel more secure. He takes comfort in canine companionship and blossoms when he doesn’t feel alone. If there are other dogs in the home, a meet and greet at the shelter will be required to ensure it’s a good match for everyone. Tank can walk on a leash, but he does best with gentle encouragement and a patient adopter who will help him feel safe and supported as he gains confidence. A securely fenced yard would still be a wonderful bonus so he can explore and enjoy the outdoors at his own pace. One of Tank’s favorite comforts is his crate. He sees it as his own little safe space and settles in nicely there, making it a great tool to help him relax and feel secure in his new home. Tank is looking for a quieter household that will offer the space, stability, and kindness he deserves. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion who just needs a little extra love to truly shine. If you have a calm home, a kind heart, and the patience to help a sweet dog continue to grow in confidence, Tank may be the perfect fit. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet.
