Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Sky! This handsome guy came to us as a stray, found near Homestead. He was living with the finders for a shortwhile - hoping his owner(s) would be looking for him and hoped he would be reclaimed. After never being reclaimed, Sky was brought to Safe Haven via the Iowa County Sheriff's Office. We are very lucky to have received Sky into our care at the time that we did, as he tested positive for Heartworm Disease. Although Heartworm Treatment is a long, somewhat painful, and quite costly process, we knew it was a must for this young, active boy! After nearly five months of quarantine due to activity restrictions during treatment, we are SO pleased to announce that Sky is cleared for adoption! His final bloodwork results came back NEGATIVE for heartworm and his activity restrictions have finally been lifted. This very patient guy has been through so much in the last six months of his life - he is more than ready to begin searching for his forever home! During his time at Safe Haven, Sky has gotten along well with other dogs in close proximity and has more recently found himself a canine friend in our other adoptable Blue Heeler, Dodger. These two boys have been getting along quite well - and appear to enjoy one another's company to run-off some of the typical Blue Heeler energy. Sky had the opportunity for an extended stay with a Safe Haven volunteer and family - including another medium-size dog and cat. They reported back that Sky did well with their dog - the dogs enjoyed playing, laying together, and enjoyed one another's company. Sky however did not settle in well with the resident cat. He was very curious about the cat, barked at the cat, and would be found 'pacing' the house on the lookout for the cat. With this in mind, it was decided to have Sky returned to Safe Haven for his safety, as well as the cats. After learning this about Sky, we think he'd do best in a home without cats. An active home willing to take him on walks, and maybe one with a fenced-in yard to play safely off-leash would be great too ... he loves to play ball, go for his walks, and loves all of the human interaction and attention too, of course! If you are interested in adopting Sky, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the adoption application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps of the adoption process. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 1, 2024, 4:35 pm
