Meet Oso, the medium sized mixed breed. We aren’t exactly sure what breed Oso is; we suspect maybe a miniature pinscher… maybe a husky… who knows! Oso has lived with another dog, a cat and a guinea pig. A home with other animals may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Any resident dogs are welcome to do a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter prior to adoption to see how they jive. Oso has been around children of all ages in his previous home. When left alone, Oso would sometimes chew on shoes. Adopters should plan to provide appropriate chew toys and bones and pick up anything that is not appropriate for Oso to chew on. Canelo is available for preadoption at this time – come in, fall in love and you can take him, home after his neuter surgery!Now through February 15th, all adoption fees are reduced to $33 - come to the Shelter today to adopt your very own Valentine!The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

He’s passive, and sweet and loving with people, is ok around cats, but would do best living as an only dog or female dogs (he’s a bit pushy with males). He’s cratetrained and wants to please his person. He needs an active home. He walks nicely on a leash and picks up new commands quickly—he knows how to sit , stay and lie down. He looks forward to his daily walks with great excitement and starts each day with renewed excitement. Peanut Butter is adorable, sweet, playful and very energetic dog! She loves to play outside and love cuddles and hugs! We adopted her in April and she is been super spoiled since then, but unfortunately, my special needs son had a seizure, a hospitalization and lots of complications after that. Our family is struggling with my son's situation and our sweet pet is not getting the care she needs and wants. Because of that complex situation, we don't have conditions to keep Peanut Butter. We are facing a hard family time and she deserves more attention that we are able to give her now. She still needs to be trained but she is doing a great job potty training. If you wants a lovely dog who loves kids and play, she is your girl!

2 yr old tricolor M/N Kelpie/GSD mix Looking for a dogs dog?? Gunner is your guy! He was comfortable enough around me, allowed touch, took treats, interacted some with me, but he really really wanted to play with the big dog in the next yard. He wasn't aloof though! Took treats gently, eager to please and loved being called a good boi, it was a fun yard time for both us us He does seem to be feeling the stress from the shelter, some have had some trouble getting him out of his kennel but he was perfectly behaved for me. This is an active breed, he will need consistent physical and mental exercise to be happy, it is likely what is causing his current stress and occasional barrier reactivity. It is worth noting that he was a very loud bork monster when I first approached his kennel but after 3 treats he was ready to follow me anywhere I was going Knows how to sit, walks well on the leash (just a tiny bit of pulling) and seemed potty trained!! ##2528145##
