Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Darcy is a goofy and lovable 3yo Australian Shepard/Bouvier de Flanders mix. She still has a lot of puppy energy but her herding breed characteristics make her eager to please and fun to train. She has the energy to play, hike, or train but settles down quickly in the house. She lives with a happy go lucky dog now and they get along well. She’d do best as an only dog or with a mellow dog in the house. Darcy cannot be housed with cats or other small animals. She’s great in the car and is crate and house trained. She can get overstimulated in public but loves running errands.

Story
Meet Baloo, the 1 year 8 month old tri-colored Australian Shepherd! Baloo is a curious and playful boy who has loved playing with his dog buddies here at the shelter. In his previous home he coexisted well with bigger breeds as well as a pug. Baloo is a very energetic dog who would thrive in a home that gives him a “job” to do where he will get enough mental and physical stimulation day to day. If you are looking for a shepherd friend who is bounding with energy and love, then Baloo might be for you!The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Weight ~60lbs (a bit too much)Blue came to us from another shelter where he`d been surrendered. Being a smart Aussie, he benefits from lots of activity that not only works his body but also his brain. Working dogs need work, so this is not a dog who`s happy just hanging out and going for a daily walk. Give him scent work, or agility, or other canine games and he`ll reward you by being a loving (and hopefully exhausted) companion. If you`re up for the challenge and would like to look into those baby blues, call or stop by the shelter Tue-Sun 11-5.

Salinas, CA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Bailey is a beautiful, affectionate 9-year-old with big brown eyes, a winning smile, and the energy of a dog half her age. She loves daily walks, cuddle time, and being close to her person. Check out @its_baileybae to see her in action. She is smart and knows her commands. She loves 2 walks a day but is happy with one solid outing — a neighborhood walk, a hike, or a beach trip all work (she's not a water girl, which keeps her clean!). Get her going with a squeaky toy and she plays like a puppy.Bailey requires a child-free home — she is fearful and reactive around young children. She also does best as the only pet and would thrive with a retiree, someone who works from home, or a person who can bring her along to work.
Photo of Koda

Koda

Australian Shepherd Catahoula Leopard Dog

Male, 3 yrs 9 mos
Pacific Grove, CA
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Looks like: Australian Shepherd mix Male, 3 years old (estimated), 79 pounds Smiley Koda is a large bundle of energy and love! He is a young gentleman with a heart of gold, interested in long walks (or runs!), and is looking for his forever adventure buddy! This handsome boy would be a perfect fit for someone who is looking for a young energetic dog who enjoys exercise and lots of affection and love! Koda sits on command and could benefit from a loving, patient, and understanding guardian to teach him other basic commands and how to politely walk on leash. He gets along with other dogs but does tend to bark at them when he is out on walks to let them know he wants to play. Koda would not be a good fit in a home that has cats or children. Koda came to us after his senior guardian passed away.
