Story
Hi my name is Sally! I’m a 5-7 year old Kelpie mix who is eager to please my people! I am house broken, kennel trained, I know sit, down and no. I will also sit and wait for my food until given the okay if asked. I love to play with toys and to have plenty of bones to chew on. Even though I came from somewhere with no snow I have loved going outside in it and even roll around. Snow in my opinion is pretty cool!I do well with other dogs, I can be a bit sassy however. I like to let them know by growling if I feel they are getting too close to my favorite toys, bones or people. But I also growl when I want to play, I’m pretty harmless just want to let people know I’m here and paying attention. I’m not sure about cats as I haven’t been around them so that would have to be an introduction if you have a kitty fur friend too. When my foster family is home I prefer to be close to one of them. My foster mom and dad tell me I’m the sweetest girl ever and someone would be lucky to have me. If you are looking for a want to be lap dog, a super loyal companion, someone to give belly rubs to and a billion kisses a day I may just be the one you’ve been looking for.All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Meet Skye!Skye is a beautiful young mama who has finished raising her puppies and is now ready to find a forever home of her very own. We have her listed as an Australian Kelpie, but she may also be mixed with Blue Heeler based on her personality and appearance. Like Blue Heelers and other herding breeds, Skye enjoys her exercise and has medium-to-high energy levels.Skye loves toys, enjoys playtime (including a game of fetch) and is just as happy settling in for a good cuddle. She’s only been with her foster mom for a short time, but she’s already proving herself to be an excellent house guest. So far, we know that she is:- Completely housetrained- Crate trained - she probably doesn`t need to be crated, but it keeps her calm in her current apartment- Knows some basic commands and is a fast learner- Great on leash - although she does love to sniff- Quiet at night- Friendly and confident with new peopleSkye has a sweet, loving nature and greets new faces with calm curiosity and kisses. She’s an affectionate, easygoing companion who enjoys being part of the household. She did best with a slow, thoughtful introduction to the resident dogs in her previous foster home. After a week or two, once routines were in place - including separate feeding and managing high-value toys - she did well with them. Once she settled in, she enjoyed playing and wrestling with a foster puppy, sharing toys and even playing tug-of-war with her. Skye does have some unpredictable resource guarding behaviors. Her foster mom is still keeping a watchful eye to find out potential triggers. Now that she is in a different foster home, she loves to be the center of attention and would probably do best as an only dog. Skye does like kids and seems to understand that she should be gentle with little ones. However, her rough and rowdy playstyle suggests she may knock littles over when playing. Because of her playful energy, she may do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children. Throwing toys around is very fun for her. She also does mouth on hands and herd feet, but we are working on stopping this behavior. Skye would really enjoy an active home. She loves going on walks and playing outside. Because she is a younger, high energy girl, we are requiring a fence for her at this time. She will get wound up without enough exercise. Skye’s story is still unfolding, and more updates will be coming soon as we

Story
Introducing Zeke, a truly remarkable pup whose heartwarming spirit and playful energy are ready to light up a new home. Zeke is a handsome, resilient boy who, through no fault of his own, found himself searching for a new home. He's more than ready to embark on his next chapter, seeking a loving, forever family to call his own. Zeke is a bundle of joyful energy, known for his silliness and ability to bring a smile to anyone's face. While he may start off shy, it doesn't take long for his true personality to shine through. He quickly becomes an enthusiastic playmate who thrives on the company of other dogs and will gleefully encourage them to play. Zeke is a smart and well-mannered companion. He is potty-trained and comfortable in his crate. He also knows basic commands like "sit" and "go to your room," and his eagerness to please makes him a joy to train further. While he’s working on managing his excitement (which sometimes results in enthusiastic leaps!), his good intentions are always clear. Walks are a highlight of his day, offering him a chance to explore and burn off some of that youthful energy. His barks will let you know precisely when he needs to go outside or when he hears you approaching the door. If you’re seeking an active, affectionate, and charming dog who promises boundless love and entertainment, Zeke could be the perfect addition to your home. Story
I'm Gabe. I'm a good boi looking for a home where I will be loved. I'm likely part Australian Cattle Dog and that means I want to be attached to my person or people and spend a lot of time with them. Do you have such a place as I'm dreaming about? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2603748##

Story
Meet Gretel (aka Liza Jean) This adorable little masked bandit will steal your heart and your blanket- and no she is NOT wearing a mask! That is her gorgeous coloring!! She's so full of love and energy in an adorable little package. Her foster mom says, "She's been an amazing playmate for our dog! She will play hard and love hard. She just seems to know when I need extra love- I have had some medical issues lately so TONS of cuddles from this wonderful pup. It's not a typical kind of cuddle, she has her OWN love language. The little darling will snuggle her head on me with her butt in the air- the whole cuddle session. When she's satisfied she's given enough love, she'll flop down asking for her OWN belly rubs. This kiddo can't get enough of em. She's gotten along with my dogs and with supervision she's learning to be ok with my cats. We're still working on the cats part. She just so so so wants to have her own family who will play with her, let her cuddle them and then give her the celebratory belly rubs. Not TOO much to ask for this very smart and very happy girl!" Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)
