Story
Meet Skye!Skye is a beautiful young mama who has finished raising her puppies and is now ready to find a forever home of her very own. We have her listed as an Australian Kelpie, but she may also be mixed with Blue Heeler based on her personality and appearance. Like Blue Heelers and other herding breeds, Skye enjoys her exercise and has medium-to-high energy levels.Skye loves toys, enjoys playtime (including a game of fetch) and is just as happy settling in for a good cuddle. Skye walks great on a leash, but does like to stop and sniff! She loves doing puzzles, lick mats and doing nosework before bed. Skye is housetrained, but will tear up a blanket if she gets bored. She is very quiet in her kennel and will go right in with a treat. Skye is a very smart girl - she knows some basic commands: sit, stay, lay down and leave it. We are still working on off and tap. She will also be starting training at Zoom Room!Skye has a sweet, loving nature and loves to say hello to new people. She’s an affectionate, easygoing companion who enjoys being part of the household. She did best with a slow, thoughtful introduction to the resident dogs in her previous foster home. After a week or two, once routines were in place - including separate feeding and managing high-value toys - she did well with them. Once she settled in, she enjoyed playing and wrestling with a foster puppy, sharing toys and even playing tug-of-war with her. Skye does have some unpredictable resource guarding behaviors. Her foster mom is still keeping a watchful eye to find out potential triggers. Now that she is in a different foster home, she loves to be the center of attention and would probably do best as an only dog. Skye does like kids and seems to understand that she should be gentle with little ones. However, her rough and rowdy playstyle suggests she may knock littles over when playing. Because of her playful energy, she may do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children. Throwing toys around is very fun for her. When Skye is wound up, she has previously mouthed on hands or tries to herd feet, but we have mostly stopped this behavior with some training. Skye would really enjoy an active home. She loves going on walks and playing outside. Because she is a younger, high energy girl, we are requiring a fence for her at this time. She will get wound up without enough exercise. Skye’s story is still unfolding, and more updates
