Story
Hi hoomans! My name is Belinda and here's more about me:
PHYSICAL INFO:
• Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix• Age: Approx 4 years old• Gender: Female • Weight: *Needs weight • Current Location: Guadalajara, Mexico
RESCUE STORY - My name is Belinda, and my story hasn’t been an easy one, but I’m still here hoping for my happy ending. I spent most of my life on the streets, where I became a mama twice. My first litter was tragically lost in an accident, and during my second, I was finally rescued. Some of my puppies found homes, but not all survived. When I was found, I was very thin, very sad, and scared of people. For the first time, someone chose me, my rescuer brought me to safety, had me spayed, and gave me a warm foster home where I’ve been for the past year learning to feel safe and loved. Now, I’m ready for the next chapter of my life: finding a furrever family to call my own.
TEMPERAMENT - I’m a calm, gentle, and sweet girl with a slightly shy side, but once I feel safe, my loving nature shines through. I have a peaceful, low-to-moderate energy and get along well with both dogs and cats, making me a great addition to a variety of homes. I’m very calm indoors and love relaxing in my bed, which is my safe space, I may bark a little if another pet tries to take it, but I’m not aggressive, just protective of my cozy spot. I can be a bit nervous outside due to my past and sometimes worry about being abandoned again, but with a soft voice and patience, I slowly build confidence and enjoy gentle walks. I may bark at unfamiliar people or noises, but I settle quickly!
ENERGY LEVEL –Medium
GETS ALONG WITH:
• Kids – Unknown. [Haven’t met children before so unsure how I will react]• Dogs – Yes, I get along with other dogs, but I do prefer to stay by myself.• Cats – Yes, I get along with cats.
PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
• Leash skills – Work in progress. I’m still building my confidence on the leash. At the very beginning of walks, I can feel a little overwhelmed and may react nervously, so I need a bit of time to adjust to my surroundings. With patience, reassurance, and a calm approach, I continue to improve each day. A well-fitted harness and gentle, consistent leash training will help set me up for success! You can find me on a stroll here :)• House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)
Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
HEALTH NOTES:
I am spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
ADOPTION FEE:
My adoption fee is $840 ($750.00 CAD + applicable taxes) which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
