Story
We purchased our pup from a breeder. She is 1.5 years old. She is super sweet, smart, loyal, fun. We would keep her 1000 times over if we didn't have such a busy household with family, friends and neighbors coming over often. With 3 kids (teens and preteens) we are always having their friends or neighborhood kids come over to hangout/play. She is perfect once she gets to know you. But if you are an adult or kid she doesn't know and suddenly is there, she goes into her herding mode and tries to protect us and her animal siblings from that person coming up to the house or entering our house. She will run towards them, keep circling them until she gets close enough to nip their leg to try to make them go away. If we hold her and introduce her to the guest and show her they are not a threat, then she is fine. But with our busy household, we can't always do that. She would be best in a household where not a lot of people are coming and going.

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org.---- Came from a situation where she did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, she may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining. - A very sweet girl who always has her tail wagging - Enjoys playing with other dogs in her foster home and would likely benefit from a confident dog friend in her new home to help show her the ropes - Treats are a great way to help her warm up - one of her favorites is spray cheese! - Loves to lie down on soft spots, whether it's a chair, the couch, or a cushion; she loves sleeping on the couch!- Has been doing well with potty training in her foster home, just remember any dog may take time to adjust to a new environment and routine - Is working on leash training in her foster home, but has a long way to go, will do best with a fenced-in yard that she can explore freely - Deaf and seems to have impaired vision; being with other dogs helps her understand what's going on, like when it's time to come inside from the yard (more info at ARL) The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Age: 1yrs 2mths 0wks

Because of this, he may struggle with new situations, may show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, may need help understanding leashes, and will need patience and structure with housetraining. - A very sweet guy with lots of potential; just needs the right family to show him love and help him open up! - Prefers to initiate petting and other contact with the people he trusts most, will bop you with his nose to let you know when he wants attention - Likes following his people around and just observing everything - Has been working on leash training in his foster home but currently needs a fenced in yard to roam free in; will probably LOVE going on walks once he is more confident on a leash - Is deaf and relies on the other dogs in his foster home to know when to go outside and come in side (would likely benefit from a dog friend in his new home to help him understand what's going on) - Enjoys playing with other dogs in his foster home The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Story
Storm is being returned through no fault of her own. Storm is 2.5 years old, about 60/70 lbs. Storm is great with kids and leaves cats alone. She’s never been in a kennel, but the owner is working on kennel training now. She is house trained. Storm was sleeping in bed with adopter until she had a baby. Storm lives with another very submissive dog and does fine with him but the adopter mentioned that she would not do well with another dominant dog. She’s more of a people dog than dog’s dog. Storm is a barker, but mostly outdoors.
