Story
Meet Stevie, a 4-year-old purebred Red Merle Australian Shepherd. She is a sweet, gentle, and highly intelligent girl who is kennel trained and knows basic commands. She has been raised around children, cats, and other dogs. She is a high-drive working breed that thrives when she has a 'job' to do. She is not a fit for a sedentary or lazy home; she needs a dedicated, active owner who can provide daily mental and physical stimulation, like puzzle toys or a herding ball in a secure yard. We love her dearly, but her high activity and grooming needs are beyond what our current lifestyle can provide. We are looking for an experienced home that understands the Australian Shepherd breed and is ready to give her the active life she deserves. Serious inquiries only, please.

Story
Meet Rocky!??Rocky is a 3 year old Aussie mix and has been the sweetest boy for us here at SMAS. He loves to play and LOVES attention. Rocky likes dogs that don`t get in his face so he can be kinda choosey with them. He could use some leash manners but with a little bit of love and work, he`d be a very good boy!Consider putting in an application on Rocky!

Story
Maizy Mae, as she likes to be called, is sight challenged but makes up for it with BIG personality! Don’t let her limitations fool you. This dog is fearless! She will be the life of the dog park and knows how to make friends fast! Excellent utilizing her other senses to make her way around. Once she has a space conquered she dominates with mighty force (just ask her bonded mate - Bella). Since in my care I have seen Maizy grow with confidence and determination. She will make a great companion for someone with patience to continue helping her grow and learn.A few words from Maizy:I like it when my foster mom puts me in a sling bag to be carried around. Especially when there loud noises outside! Mom calls me a good girl when I let her know I have to be taken outside to potty. But, sometimes if mom isn’t quick enough I do have to use the potty pads. My favorite activity is when we go to the dog park and I get to smell all the smells! Mom took me to daycare a few times but I DID not like that too much. Mom and I are working on leash training and learning to play ( but to be honest, I would rather just lay in her lap with her petting me - I’m pretty sure she likes it too!) I do have a play buddy, Bella, and sometimes when I’m feeling brave, I will wrestle with her for dibbs on bragging rights. (Most times Bella wins though). I would feel the safest in a yard with a fence.

Story
Bella is a shy girl until you get to know her and she trusts you. Then watch out because she will be your best friend! Bella LOVES belly rubs and attention in general, really. She does get a little jealous when her bonded mate, Maizy, receives more attention so I do try to even it out. Bella is really good at alerting me when she has to go outside however she will use potty pads if absolutely necessary. We are currently learning to leash train. Bella does like to hang out and do her own thing but will join in for cuddles before bedtime.A few words from Bella:I like it a lot when my foster mom lets me do my own thing. I do like to relax in the garage on my dog bed while she works on stuff. I could spend hours watching the traffic in the street! I love car rides and will watch out the window while my play mate, Maizy, is snoring in my ear. I also love it when we go to the dog park and I get to see all my friends! My most favorite thing to do is run while my foster mom chases me. (I hate to break it to her, I’m faster!) Sometimes I play with Maizy when she is in the mood. I love to RUN a little too much and would love a yard with a fence so I can be free off leash.

Story
Niko is an Aussie male puppy looking for his furever family to run and play with.  He would also love to cuddle with you on the couch.  He was born appx January 2026.  Niko is friendly with strangers, but he's a little shy at first.  He enjoys playing with other dogs.  He's very active and needs a fenced yard with room to run.  Niko also likes to play fetch. Niko is crate trained.  He will need additional training in his new home, especially since he's still a puppy.  Niko is such a great dog!  Please consider adopting this friendly boy. The suggested adoption donation for Niko is $465, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.  Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital or Omaha Animal Medical Group in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized. ##2747329##

Story
Meet Duke: A Handsome Aussie/Husky Mix A Bright, Playful Companion Looking for His Next Loving Home This sweet male Australian Shepherd/Husky mix is a joyful, intelligent, and spirited dog who has been deeply loved. His owner, who is battling health issues and is making the heartbreaking decision to rehome Duke because he deserves the time, activity, and attention that are no longer possible to provide. This choice comes from a place of love and wanting the very best for him. What Makes Duke Special Healthy Housebroken Stranger friendly Great with kids of all ages Active, playful, and social Knows several commands Prefers having another dog or pet around Needs a fenced yard Very intelligent — with a little Husky stubbornness mixed in Personality & Play Style He is a very friendly, happy dog who loves to play. Fetch is one of Duke's favorite games — though he’ll often turn it into a fun round of keepaway just to make you laugh. Every now and then he may gently grab your hand with his mouth during play, but he never bites down; it’s his way of being silly and interactive. He’s smart, expressive, and sometimes gives a little “back talk” like many Huskies do. Stand your ground, and he’ll listen and do exactly what you ask. He already knows: Sit Lay down Shake (with both paws!) He’s also a bit of a foodmooch and tends to get close when you’re eating — a habit that can be improved with consistency. Ideal Home A fenced yard to run and explore A family or individual who enjoys an active lifestyle Someone who can give him daily engagement, structure, and playtime Another friendly dog or pet would be a bonus Kids are absolutely fine — he’s gentle and social The suggested adoption donation for Duke is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).
