HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by request. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org. ---- Great dog with tons of potential who is looking for a special family who will continue working with him to help him gain confidence and learn that life is full of great things. If you're up to the challenge, read on! - Came from an environment where he did not get the normal socialization that most puppies get, so the world is still a very scary place for him - Has come a long way in the weeks we have been working with him, and will take treats from people he has a relationship with and even some guests coming to his foster home - We are requiring a fenced yard to ensure he stays safe and secure as he has had no experience with being on leash though he is making slow progress! - We've seen lots of progress, but things such as petting from strangers, leashing up, and anything a "normal" dog would like can still be quite scary for him, so he will need continued help over time from his new family - Leaving interactions 100% up to him and using treats as rewards are great ways to gain him trust; he LOVES having the choice to interact and have his space when he feels uncomfortable - Has done best with other dogs and would really benefit from a calm, confident dog friend in his new home so he can follow their lead and build confidence by watching them navigate daily life - Needs a teens-and-up home right now, as young children are way too much for him. A mature, structured home would be perfect! - Since he's still learning to live with people, vet visits will have to be approached differently, so it will be important to talk with your veterinarian about ways to help him be most comfortable - Has done well with being crated in his foster home - Looking for a predictable home with very patient people who understand that it will take him not days but weeks to become completely comfortable. If you're willing to give him that time, you'll see, just as we have, that he is worth the wait! It will be incredibly rewarding to watch him become more trusting every day! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Weight: 35 Age: 1yrs 7mths 2wks

Story
Storm is being returned through no fault of her own. Storm is 2.5 years old, about 60/70 lbs. Storm is great with kids and leaves cats alone. She’s never been in a kennel, but the owner is working on kennel training now. She is house trained. Storm was sleeping in bed with adopter until she had a baby. Storm lives with another very submissive dog and does fine with him but the adopter mentioned that she would not do well with another dominant dog. She’s more of a people dog than dog’s dog. Storm is a barker, but mostly outdoors.

Story
wilight, the gorgeous, gregarious girl! Hitting the scales at a mere 38 pounds, at about 2 years old, is this darling, sweet girl. Twilight is quick to greet everyone with wiggles of her butt, and the quick wags of her fluffy tail! Often enough, she also sports a wide, incredibly adorable grin, letting you know that she's just that happy to see you! Her big brown eyes compliment her soulful demeanor, as she gets on well with EVERYONE, and is the social butterfly we place in doggy playgroup, knowing she dissolves anyone other dog's tension! Twilight is amazing at matching the energy of anyone, everyone, and anything, especially children! This sweet girl must really think she's a big girl, which is great! As she does her absolute best to keep all 4 on the floor, and always keen on which commands she's being told. My personal favorite trait of Twilight's is how she's 100% willing to settle, anytime, despite being so young, and full of life - if you call her over for some cuddles, she won't ever say no. We KNOW this girl will do AMAZING in just about any home, as she's got the gentle-matured nature, yet the personality of a youthful puppy! Did I mention she has her basics down, is crate-trained, AND house-broken?

Story
Pearl was a part of 70 different Australian shepherds that Had to be rehomed. Her previous owner was a breeder, and it obviously got out of control and he was evicted from his home, He ended up having to rehome all of his Australian Shepherds. We took her as she seemed very friendly, And she is with females, and my two young girls, But unfortunately, she has behaviors that we have not been able to fix males. She is house trained, But when she gets scared, she does have accidents. Pearl truly is a sweet girl, and if it wasn’t for the pressure of my husband to rehome her due to the fact that she has bit him in the past, and has not been getting better with him no matter what steps we do to resolve it. Him and I both work full-time jobs, And obviously with the two kids, We have not been able to devote all of our time to her. I feel as though Home, without a male presence or constant male presence would be good for her. She gets kind of nervous around other dogs but does well after awhile
