Sakari is seeking a home that knows the breed and will continue working to make her a good canine citizen. She is crate and potty trained. She walk well on leash, she is not a fan of the car and does experience car sickness. She can sometimes growl when meeting new people and will be leery of them coming close without giving her some time to warm up. She is NOT good with children and will nip and herd them.

Story
Meet Trooper — a handsome 5-year-old Australian Shepherd with a striking look and a personality to match. One of his eyes is bright blue and the other warm brown, giving him a truly unforgettable face.Trooper came to us as an owner surrender, and his previous owner shared that he’s a friendly boy who just needs a little attention and continued training to really shine. He is kennel trained, walks well on a leash, and gets along with other dogs, making him a great candidate for an active home.Like many herding breeds, Trooper is smart and energetic. He hasn’t been fully house trained yet, so he’ll need a family willing to help him with the basics and give him the structure he needs. He may chase cats but reportedly does not try to harm them.Because of his herding instincts, Trooper may nip at small children if they run, though it does not break skin. For this reason, he would likely do best in a home with older kids or adults who understand his breed traits and can help guide him with positive training.Trooper is a loyal, intelligent dog who simply needs someone willing to invest time in him. With attention, patience, and a bit of guidance, he has the potential to become an incredible companion. If you’re looking for a smart, active dog who will bond closely with his people, Trooper may be your guy. Please do your breed research before applying to adopt. Australian Cattle Dogs and other herding breeds are special dogs with special requirements. These dogs were bred to have a job, and without the right activity level/purpose they won’t flourish which can lead to issues down the road. Herding dogs are incredibly smart and need to be challenged both physically and mentally to really be happy. Even though each dog is a unique individual, don’t forget, they were bred to herd things and can at times be mouthy and/or nippy. Cattle Dogs are a fun, active breed that many have fallen in love with over the years, but please keep their breed needs in mind if you are considering adding one to your household. This pet is available for adoption at the Yakima Humane-Ellensburg Shelter If you recognize this animal, please contact the adoption center at 509-925-7387 Ready to adopt?
