CUTENESS ALERT - Meet Derby Derby came to SSRI because his owner was put into an assisted living placement and was no longer able to take care of him. Unfortunately, his owner struggled with hoarding issues and did not have the finances nor the wherewithal to take proper care of him. Derby is the sweetest boy. He can be timid when you first meet him but is coming into himself and showing more and more of his personality each day. He is crate trained, house trained, microchipped and up to date on all of his vaccines. He gets along with other dogs but not with cats. He Is almost 10 years old but is physically strong and goes for a 1.5 mile walk each day with his foster brother. He loves sitting in his foster dad’s lap and get his daily dose of love and affection. He also loves to be outside (no matter how cold it is) and has to be called in (because it’s cold where he is now living). This boy needs a special home because he needs to catch up on all the love he has missed over the years. If you have a place in your heart for this special boy please submit an application.

Story
Such a serious name for such a sweet, silly, boy! Please meet Ralph. Ralph is a 3-year-old, Springer Spaniel. Ralph recently joined MHCR after his human decided to down-size their canine pack due to too many dog. He’s friendly, well-adjusted, and seems great with humans and dogs of all types. Ralph had never lived with a cat until he came to CO and he finds the entire situation perplexing and he would prefer not to live with a feline friend. He’s house trained, crates like a dream, enjoys snuggle time, and promises to keep the yard squirrels at bay. Ralph doesn’t seem to be a huge eater, but his waistline indicates otherwise, and his family will need to support him on his quest to get trim. Ralph will enjoy a home with a fenced in yard, please! He enjoys walks, but pulls a fair amount. Ralph is being fostered in Denver, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/ralph/. Story
Sam was originally rescued in July 2022 in Austin, TX. According to his chip he was born in Jan 2019 making him 6 years old. He is the sweetest little guy (26 lbs). Great with people of all ages and kids! Loves to say hi to everyone on walks! He is independent but loves a few quick cuddles here and there. Great listener. Loves to fetch tennis balls, hikes, long walks, car rides, and chasing squirrels and bunnies. Energy level is moderate and he is very easy going for the most part. He is highly attuned making sensitive to noise (fireworks) or intense/heightened emotions. My work is requiring me to travel more and for longer periods of time and my immediate family who has been helping me can no longer help take care of him. Ideal home for him would be someone/family member who works remotely/home often, is loving, emotionally balanced and knows how to care for sensitive natured animals, can take him for two moderate length walks per day (minimum) and has a fenced in yard.

Story
Barnabus is an amazing pup with a huge love for fetch—give him a ball, and he’s the happiest dog in the world! He’s looking for a gentle and patient adopter who will let him take his time to build trust. Barnabus thrives in a calm environment where he’s spoken to with kindness and allowed to come to you on his own terms. Once he feels secure, his sweet and loyal personality truly shines. While he’s not a fan of constant cuddles right away, Barnabus warms up beautifully with stability and love. He enjoys quiet walks, watching the world go by, and engaging with the people around him. He’s great with kids, other animals, and people, making him a wonderful companion in the right home. Barnabus does have a quirky growl, but don’t be alarmed—it’s his way of asking for attention, especially when he wants to play! He’s been misunderstood in the past, but in the right hands, he’ll flourish into the perfect, devoted best friend. If you’re ready to offer Barnabus the care, understanding, and love he deserves, he’s ready to meet you! Fill out an application today to bring this playful and protective boy into your life.
