Around 9:15 am she’s ready for breakfast, which is currently her favorite combination of rice and chicken with a sprinkle of kibble on top. She’s not a fan of plain kibble just yet, but she’s making progress and learning new things all the time. After breakfast, Ruby heads out for a 15–20 minute walk around 10 am, followed by another similar walk in the afternoon around 4 pm. Dinner is usually served between 6 and 6:30 pm, and by 10:30 pm she’s ready for bed, sleeping quietly through the night in her crate in her foster mom’s bedroom.   During the day, Ruby is a classic little shadow. She follows her foster mom from room to room, curls up on the couch, or naps peacefully in her pen. In the evenings, she loves to snuggle up with the family during TV time, soaking in all the affection she can get.   When Ruby first arrived, she was very skittish and would often flinch when approached. With a little patience, gentle handling, and a few treats, she quickly realized she was safe. Now, she has completely blossomed into an affectionate, kiss-giving cuddle bug. Ruby is very much a velcro dog who wants to be near her people at all times, even following her foster mom into the bathroom. She loves to run, play, and race around the house, and her joyful energy is contagious.   Ruby lives with a small, older dog and has learned to respect her boundaries. While she initially wanted to play, she now understands that her canine housemate prefers a calmer lifestyle. They coexist nicely and even share the couch. Ruby is also curious about the household cat and has been friendly and mostly respectful of the cat’s space.   Ruby is a great mix of couch potato and playful puppy. She enjoys chasing tennis balls, even though she hasn’t quite figured out the “bring it back” part yet. She loves zooming around the backyard, being chased, and showing off her athletic side. On leash, Ruby has come a long way. She didn’t know how to walk on a leash at first, but she learned quickly and now walks nicely without much pulling, unless something exciting like a squirrel catches her eye. She doesn’t bark at other dogs and is curious and friendly while out on walks. Short walks suit her well, but she would likely enjoy longer walks and even runs as she continues to build confidence.   Ruby is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night. She isn’t 100% potty trained yet, but as long as she’s taken out every 4–5 hours, she does very well. She’s generally a quiet dog, only barking briefly if the doorbell rings or if someone new surprises her.   What sets Ruby apart is her incredible affection, friendliness, curiosity, and athleticism. She learns quickly and bonds deeply. One of her foster’s favorite things about her is how excited she gets when called for cuddles, pets, or walks. She wags her tail so hard that her whole body waddles toward you. And when she wants attention, she’ll gently nudge her head under your hand as a not-so-subtle reminder that it’s time for more pets. Ruby is a loving, joyful companion who is ready to give her whole heart to a family of her own.December 29, 2025, 4:39 pm
