Story
Introducing: LEONARD. The Super Senior Bully Mix He’s 12-ish years old. He’s going blind. His hips are about as trustworthy as a gas station sushi roll. He pees a lot. He humps even more. And somehow, he’s still the most loveable old man we’ve ever met. Leonard didn’t deserve to end up in a pound. He was found as a stray, unclaimed, and left behind. But guess what? We stepped in. Because no senior dog deserves to have their last chapter written in a cold kennel. Now Leonard’s days are filled with soft beds, snacks, belly rubs, and a whole lot of potty breaks. (Seriously, a lot.) He might be a little creaky, a little leaky, and a little freaky 🤭 — but he’s 100% adored. Would we love for someone to step up and give him the cushy retirement home he deserves? Absolutely. That would be the cherry on top. 🍒(he still has his). But until then, Leonard is living his best life with Northern Lakes Rescue, loved hard for however long he’s got. ❤️ Because even the oldest, quirkiest, most “oops I peed again” dogs deserve a soft landing. 🐾

Story
Meet Onyx 🐾 (Yes we the love irony of his name) He is smart and the most chill 6 month old I’ve ever met. Crate trained, sleeps through the night. Working on potty training, only a couple of poo accidents when he’s off the tether have happened. Does well with tether training. He does try to eat his poop outside so we’ve been leash only and I’ve been giving him solid gold hoping that will help. Loves the kids. Could care less about cats. We have a couple of mouser cats and I brought by them and didn’t chase, just looked. which is great. He’s not a barker at things going on (I wish Leo had this quality 😒) he will only bark when he’s in his kennel and wants to be out. (Initially at bedtime for about 5 min and in the morning when I come upstairs and he’s anxious to get out). Loves Nylon bones, he makes good choices about choosing his toys and not hands, furniture or shoes. He likes to play with Kodi (our Shepard) and run in the yard with the kids, but loves to also be a couch potato or lay chewing on his bones. We’ve been using his shelter name, Onyx and he’s figuring it out and listening to it in the house. We are going to take him to a private dog park (I had no idea these exist) tomorrow so we’ll see how good his recall is outside off leash. He loves to lay in the kitchen when I cook but does not try to jump on counters. He’s just loyal and wants to be by his foster momma 🖤 He’s mastered sitting and waiting for his dog bowl to hit the floor before he digs in. He needs a slow feeder but still chows down like he’ll never get a meal again. As fast as an eater he is he shows no food aggression. Just a piggy. 🐽 He did a car ride with me tonight for kid exchange and he did good. He loves heated seats 🤣 He was instantly fine with our smaller dog who is passive. Kodi (big dog, more dominant) it took him about 3/4 days before they would stop growling at each other, showing teeth. They’ve adjusted, so just knowing if he goes to a house with another big dog, his fight or flight response if he’s scared or intimidated would be fight so they need a slow slow transition. We kept Kodi away completely, either on the other side of the gate or on a leash too for 2 days then we did intermittent moments of them coming together and sniffing for another 1 to 2 days. Onyx’s adoption fee is $425 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations appropriate at the time of adoption, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. Story
🐰 Meet Honey Bunny (aka Bunny)! A sweet, spirited 2-year-old mix with a heart full of joy and the cutest little folding ears you’ve ever seen. Bunny came to Minnesota all the way from Oklahoma, where she spent plenty of time socializing with other dogs. She has adjusted beautifully to her new environment and quickly made herself at home. One thing her foster mom has learned? This girl LOVES to play. Bunny’s favorite game is fetch—she’s still mastering the “wait,” but she will proudly bring that ball right back every single time, ears bouncing and tail wagging. 🏡 In the Home Bunny is a crate-training superstar—quiet, content, and always excited for ear rubs once she hears the “kennel” command. Treats may be involved… but can you blame anyone? She takes them so gently and is just too adorable to resist. She’s still figuring out “sit,” but she is potty trained and doing well with leash walking as she continues practicing her etiquette. Bunny is a smart little half-pint who enjoys hand feeding and doesn’t mind if her foster mom takes a toy away when needed. 🐶 With Other Dogs Bunny has great social experience but does have a couple preferences: She isn’t too sure about eating meals right next to another dog. When she gets overly tired, she sometimes prefers not to share her toys—totally understandable! With structure and continued guidance, she’s learning good boundaries and adapting well. 💛 Personality Bunny is a total delight—playful, loving, energetic, and full of charming quirks (including the cutest little snorts). She loves hard, plays hard, and snuggles even harder. 🏠 Ready for Her Forever Home If you're searching for a sweet, lively snuggle bug who will brighten your days and fill your home with happiness, Bunny is your girl. She's ready to hop right into the next chapter of her life—with you. Bunny's adoption fee is $400 plus MN tax which covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip and any additional medical care she may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are.
