Rescue FAQs

Legacy Paws Rescue is a Catawba, NC-based nonprofit dedicated to giving a second chance to the "underdogs" of the animal world. We specialize in rescuing and rehabilitating senior and special needs dogs, abuse survivors, and those facing euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. Our mission goes beyond simple adoption; we provide a compassionate sanctuary for these dogs to heal and live out their days in comfort and love. Our Story Legacy Paws was born out of a deep passion for the dogs who are often overlooked—the ones with a little gray on their muzzle, a disability, or a difficult past. We saw a need for a safe haven where these deserving animals could decompress, receive proper medical care, and learn to trust humans again. We are not just a shelter; we are a sanctuary where a dog’s past doesn’t define their future. What Makes Us Different We've created a unique space where our rescues can thrive, a sanctuary for both animals and the people who love them. We have a peaceful "sanctuary side" for people and pets who need to decompress and reconnect with nature. For our more active residents, there's a "fun side" with off-road trails and a creek. Our sanctuary also features a serene "Rainbow Bridge Island," a special place for our hospice dogs and a memorial to those who have crossed over. This unique setting allows us to provide a loving environment for every dog, regardless of their health or age, while also honoring their memory. This sanctuary is a labor of love, fueled by my dedication and the generous support of our community. When you support Legacy Paws Rescue, you are helping to change the life of a dog who has nowhere else to go.
