I have done dog rescue work for 20 years, starting with volunteering in the area's shelters. My husband also worked in dog rescue, even before I met him. We adopted a child from Cambodia, and met a wonderful person there named Francine. She returned home to Louisiana and we kept in touch. She told us all about the dogs in LA, still suffering from Katrina. Shelters there are really full. So, Francine, her friend Jenny and I decided to help. Martha helps considerably as well, fostering, vetting and transporting little ones to us. They all foster the dogs and fully vet them. When a dog is ready, they will put the little one on ground or air transport to me. My husband and I work hard to find families for these small breed, sweet ones. We also take in, on occasion, a small dog from the "New Hope" program in NYC. They are small dogs who are in need of being taken from the large facility in Manhattan. I foster the dog, and get the dog all necessary vetting before placing the dog. Our rescue work is on a small, personal scale. We have also worked hard to stay in compliance with the RI's new import regulations for animals brought into the state. We have met with the Department of Agriculture and now have a quarantine facility and are fully approved. We submitted our plan to DEM to apply for the Category A license. We wrote our transport plan (conducted by Michael), submitted a plan of our intake, vetting and adoption procedure. We were then awarded the Category A status! That means we were found to be at the least risk of bringing in dogs which have contagious illnesses. We have a RI shelter license (Category A) now! We want to continue our work and are proud of what we have accomplished!
I believe we are on Earth to make it a better place, in whatever way we can. Helping animals is the mission work my husband and I feel is so very important.Additional adoption info
Little Paws 4 U exists to make the most perfect match possible while placing our little ones into families. We require that families fill out an Application, in which we will ask you about your family (including your extended family), home and neighborhood (fenced-in yards are preferable) and your expectations for your pet. We require the Application, three personal references, a vet reference and a home visit. We have an Adoption Contract which is signed. If one of our dogs is placed with another animal, that animal must be spayed or neutered. We believe getting to know our adopters well will help to ensure the match will last and all will be happy! Fee for our small dogs is 395., which includes altering (if the dog is not a puppy age 6 months or younger), all shots to date , a full vetting, Heartworm check (all of our little ones have been found to be HW negative) , deworming and a collar and blanket. It also includes transporting the dog by air or by ground transportation, from his or her foster home in Louisiana!
There is a SENIOR DISCOUNT for all dogs age 10 and over.
