Rescue FAQs

Jersey Animal Coalition is a no-kill, not-for-profit, all-volunteer coalition organized in 1989. We provide homeless dogs and cats with medical attention, shelter, and boarding, and we find them permanent loving homes. We are based in South Orange, New Jersey, but we place animals throughout the state and nearby states. Since our founding, we’ve found homes for more than 20,000 dogs and cats plus a couple ferrets, a pet rat and a chicken (our rooster is now mingling with elite designer chickens on a NJ farm!).
Jersey Animal Coalition serves as animal shelter for towns of South Orange and Maplewood, New Jersey. Additionally, we rescue dogs and cats places outside these jurisdictions. We adopt our animals to people within and outside the towns we serve.

Additional adoption info

Jersey Animal Coalition adoption process consists of completing the following adoption application, an adoption counseling session, and reference checks. Our adoption fees are $275 for dogs with periodic discounted promotions.

Our application can be completed online allowing pre-approval prior to adopter visiting shelter. A link to application is as follows:

Alternatively, adopters can apply in person at shelter.
