Rescue FAQs

Looziana Basset Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit volunteer effort to save abandoned and mistreated basset hounds for the love of the breed. Our rescued bassets are from shelters all over Louisiana and Mississippi, are strays whose owners cannot be found, or are relinquished by owners who no longer want them. Changing lifestyles, the economy, and lack of responsibility are some of the reasons for the abundance of abandoned basset hounds. Looziana Basset Rescue takes the orphaned bassets into foster care, where they are loved and cared for until permanent adoptive homes can be found. We provide veterinary care that includes vaccinations, heartworm treatment if necessary, and spaying or neutering. We completely rehabilitate, both physically and emotionally, any adoptable dog and prepare him/her for a "forever home."
Looziana Basset Rescue adopts to homes within 250 miles of New Orleans, Louisiana as well as transports to Connecticut.

Additional adoption info

When you've looked at all the great animals here and chosen one that you'd like to meet face-to-muzzle, contact us. We'll get an adoption application to you quick as a hungry basset. Then we'll do everything we can to get you and your chosen hound together for an introduction.

To ensure that you and the pet you select are ideal for each other, we'll give you some time after the introduction to think about it.

Our adoption fee is $300 plus any transport fee. The fee to transport as far as Lisbon, CT using Rescue Road Trips is $185. This includes spay/neuter, all shots, fecal and worming, microchip, heartworm test and treatment, if necessary, and all other veterinary care that is needed. The average amount that we invest in each dog is around $900, so this is quite a bargain. Looziana Basset Rescue has an extensive adoption process as well as adoption agreement.
