My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi I'm Gator. I'm a very happy 8 year old beagle boy who likes food, laying in the sun, food, snuggles on the couch, food, good sniffs in the back yard, food, long walks, oh and did I mention food? I'm a very social boy, and do great with both the girl and boy beagle that live in my foster home. I love running and playing with them in the fenced in yard. I haven't been around cats but I love kids and love to give them kisses. I am totally house trained. I sleep in my crate at night with the door open and have the run of the house during the day while my foster family is at work. I am such a good boy and never get into any trouble! I usually just sleep on their bed all day. I know how to use the doggie door and if I have to potty I just go outside.

I've definitely had a rough life. I ended up in a kill shelter and the shelter manager told my foster mom that I lived outside my whole life. I was a hunting dog and was no longer as good as the young whippersnappers. I was sadly neglected. They didn’t feed me good food causing my coat to be thin. My nails were so long I could hardly walk, and my ears had never been cleaned. When the vet checked me out he also found out that I had those nasty heartworms. But I was successfully treated and I am fine now! I am doing great and am very healthy. Foster mommy put me on premium dog food and my coat is so very pretty and is a smoky color. It’s still thin but growing back and you won’t believe how soft it is. I don’t even shed much!

My very favorite thing to do is take a walk. I can walk a long ways and I am very good on a leash. We go daily and I don’t mind the cold weather one bit. I would do great with almost any family. I am very food motivated and am still learning proper manners about food (like how to take a treat gently). I haven’t mastered that yet but we are working hard on it. My foster mom feeds me in the crate so I don’t try to steal the other beagles’ food. I'm getting better every day, but will still need some help and training to keep improving.

I love everyone that I meet and I love getting petted, getting belly rubs, and being spoken to. I have the nicest bay that you will get to hear when you get home after leaving me for a while. You won’t believe how happy I will be to see you. I love giving kisses and am a big sweetie with lots and lots of love to offer. Don't let my premature graying fool you. I'm a spunky senior!
