My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Sara. Her smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Her foster mom knows it's morning when Sara's little head comes under the blanket...getting closer and closer..and then a huge kiss of love. This curious and really, really smart 12 to 18 month old, approximately 12 to 14 lb Maltese/Poodle mix is a truly great companion as well as a lap dog extraordinaire. There aren't many visible signs (other than her initial shyness upon meeting new people) that Sara was in a very scary high-kill shelter just about to face euthanasia. She can hang back or be a touch afraid in certain situations..but a warm hug and reassuring words...and Sara bounces back and cuddles just a bit closer.
.
We picture Sara as the best friend to retirees. She'd be so loyal... and overjoyed to share her love and good will. There's also no question that Sara would be the most popular girl on the block. Once comfortable, she loves to engage and just be her entertaining, adorable self. Even though Sara is usually up for pretty much any activity, she's never pushy or yappy. Exercise...perhaps a walk in the sunshine to socialize with neighbors, and mental stimulation that comes from her time with her humans... is important to this girl to keep her happy and well-behaved. it's not that she requires extensive amounts, just enough to keep her healthy and stimulated. Sara is such an easy dog to bring along. You can just scoop her up and she'll lie happily in your arms. Or grab a backpack and Sara will snuggle down in her backpack for a long hike with a great view from above. Sara derives so much joy from her relationships, we would love to see her in a family that often stays at home...or chooses to bring along this sweet and kind fuzzy family member. Sara would shine in an office setting or in pretty much any situation where a sweet pup is accepted. Sara is a great dog who deserves this love and consistency in her life.

Sara's Texas foster mom had the following to say about lovebug Sara:

Sweet and kind Sara would be perfect for a retired couple or individual. She is a little timid at first but once I sat quietly with her, spoke gently about how much I loved her and gave her tons of belly rubs, she couldn't stop wagging her tail. It reminded me of a helicopter! All Sara wants to make her happy is to sit or lie by my side, or on my lap, and follow me as I wander around the house. Although, she does get tired of my wanderings and will lie down quietly in an available dog bed or couch. Sara walks on a leash like a champ (perfect for an older individual) and likes to potty outside. She's so respectful of my home and me that she would never consider having an accident or destroying anything in my house. Sara sleeps on her bed (or my bed occasionally) in my room all night with no problems whatsoever. She's very careful to be quiet and never snores! Sara is such a sweet and kind girl. She just needs some love and attention. When she understands that she's well-loved and respected, her self-esteem will skyrocket and there won't be a better companion in the world!

This adorable and very, very loyal Maltese/Poodle mix is a non-shedding girl. This breed combination is also considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic available for those with allergy concerns. Sara will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her stunning white hair cottony-soft and matt-free.

Sara is being fostered in Denver. Applications are being accepted, and meet 'n greets are currently being set up.
