My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Carlita but my good friends call me Carly. I am a 3 year old beagle girl with a curvy figure. My former owners must not have loved me as I ended up in a kill shelter. It was a very scary place. For weeks I had to sleep on the hard concrete floor and was never let out to potty or go for walks. My foster mom knew she better get me out of there before something bad happened to me. When she got me home she noticed I was limping. After further inspection she saw that my dew claw had grown into my pad and it had been that way for some time. I was in SO much pain. My foster parents held me down and cut it out and boy what a relief!
The first thing I will tell you about myself is that I am a DIVA! Although I am very sweet I also have a feisty side. I like to get on the couch and lie around while my foster parents are at work. I am a good girl so I can be left out all day. I haven’t chewed anything up and I don’t dig holes. You may think because I have a few extra pounds that I’m a lazy girl but that could be further from the truth. I love to get outside and play and chase the other dogs in the fenced back yard. My very favorite part of the day is my walk…oh how fun! I can walk a couple miles at a time. My foster parents are working on my weight. I weighed 38 lbs. when I got to the shelter but now I’m down to 32! In just 3 weeks! I eat green beans with my premium weight control food. I really should be about 25 lbs. so I still have a ways to go but I know you’ll help me get there. When you give me a treat I will sit for you but you’ll have to be very careful as I like them so well I may nibble the end of your finger.
I am a smart girl and am house trained. I know how to use the doggie door. I think soft squeaky toys are the greatest. I am not real fond of my crate. I am being fed it there so I don’t steal the other beagles’ food. But at night my foster parents make me go in one and when she closes the door I bark at her. I want to sleep with her….not in that silly crate. She is working on that with me.
I ride well in the car and foster mom puts me in a crate for the drive. I am just fine with that and snuggle up and enjoy the ride. I’ve not been around kids or cats so not sure if we’d be friends or not.
I have had a rough start to life. I would do best with a beagle experienced family since I am a sassy gal. I might try to rule the house if not. But I am also very sweet and I love to be petted. Please give me a chance to love my way into your heart.
I am being fostered in New Carlisle, OH.
Love, Carly
