My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. Peyton is the kind of pup who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet and social with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a dog is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space..or worse yet on the streets hiding in the shadows. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuer in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Peyton from certain abuse and eventual euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special guy. Peyton was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, neutered, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Peyton...just 18 - 24 months old and approximately 10 - 12 lbs. This is such a perfect size to be able accompany his family just about anywhere and fit right in due to his great temperament. Peyton is already understanding that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. He was one of the extremely lucky young dogs to master his socialization skills at a very early age and endear himself to the US rescuers. There was no way Peyton was going to be left behind! We all have a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving guy in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

As Peyton becomes comfortable in his home, he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Peyton in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and some lap-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Peyton and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Peyton would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Peyton would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and gentle as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.

Peyton was identified as a Cairn Terrier/Norfolk mix by his Tijuana rescuer. This is difficult to determine with certainty, but we can definitely see both adorable and engaging breeds in this very sweet guy.

Peyton is a non-shedding or very lightly shedding dog (this street and shelter-dirty guy will be groomed prior to his arrival in Denver). He will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would be great) to keep his beautiful hair healthy and matt-free.

Peyton will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 1/23/16. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet lap-dog with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in this adorable ...and often very fun and entertaining best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
