Meet Winnie! She's a sweet, energetic beagle mix looking for a home of her own. She's 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Evidence shows that she had a litter of puppies before becoming lost and then found by a family who could not keep her and so turned her over to a shelter.
Winnie made a lot of friends, human and canine, at the shelter (she was a favorite there) before entering the Midwest BREW program. (However, she did not befriend the shelter felines...)
Winnie has endeared herself to her foster family as well-mom, dad, three kids ages 9-16, and beagle. She's very sociable, always greeting us enthusiastically, always appreciative of a belly rub. She was a good girl on her one vet visit with us-she was calm and allowed an easy checkup. Winnie enjoys walks and car rides. She goes potty on leash and in the yard. In her 2 1/2 weeks with us so far, she's had just two accidents inside, but these happened on days when she and our beagle were home alone a bit longer than usual.
Winnie measures around 18" shoulder to floor (head height is around 22") and so is on the tall side for a beagle mix. We learned to move food a little further away from the edge of the countertop than is needed for our beagle but otherwise haven't found her taller stature difficult to manage.
We'd encourage Winnie's adopting family to sign her up for some obedience training-"down," "off," etc. Winnie is bright and eager to please but simply has never been taught. That said, despite a healthy amount of energy, she's not at all a frantic or neurotic dog.
Very importantly, Winnie's foster family will need a secure back yard. Winnie will definitely try to dig her way under a fence if she spots a squirrel or rabbit on the other side. We set boards and pavers along the base of our fence to prevent this.
Winnie looks forward to meeting, loving, and continuing her education with, a family of her own!
