My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BUSTER!

This big, handsome boy is named Buster! Shockingly, Buster was found wandering around Philadelphia and was brought to the animal control shelter as a stray – and no one came to claim him! The shelter is no place for any animal, but certainly not a well-rounded, amazing guy like Buster so a City of Elderly Love foster family scooped him up and is now working to find him his dream retirement home!

Buster is around 8 years old and weighs close to 70 lbs! He appears to be some sort of bully mix with a graham-cracker and white coat and the best puppy-dog face. Despite his large stature, Buster doesn’t pull on the leash, jump, have bathroom accidents in the house, beg for food, and doesn’t even try to get on the furniture! Buster LOVES to go for walks and spend time outside and does a little dance when he sees his harness! Buster is currently living with another dog in foster care. He is enamored with his foster sister, (a pushy, higher energy pit bull mix) and is happy to let her be in charge. When she initiates play he reciprocates happily, but always lets her win the wrestling match. He is respectful of her space, doesn’t steal her bones while she’s chewing, and even lets her go first at the water bowl. His foster mom suspects he would have these same manners with any resident dogs in his forever home, since he’s been friendly and patient with the other dogs he’s met! Buster hasn’t been officially introduced to his feline foster brother yet, but one of his favorite activities is to lay in front of the door to the cat’s room, incessantly wagging his tail. His foster mom is looking forward to introducing them once the (very obstinate) cat warms up to the idea.

Buster isn’t quite sure about spending time in his crate, but he’s gaining confidence every day since that’s where meals are served. He’s shown no destructive tendencies, even when Foster Mom forgets to put her shoes away! His favorite time is snuggle time, especially when he’s the little spoon and he’ll give gentle kisses when invited. His favorite leisure activity is bone chewing but if his sister has her way, he’ll learn to play fetch any day now! Buster is a quiet dog who runs in his sleep and sometimes snores gently. He’s been known to voice his opinion of mom’s early bedtime, but his bark is quiet and any protest is short lived. He sleeps through the night with no noise and no accidents, and prefers a morning cuddle session to an immediate trip outside. Buster is a healthy boy who just got a clean bill of health from our vet. As expected for a big boy like him, he does have some age-related joint stiffness. He was recently treated for lymes disease and is heartworm negative. Buster is clearly grateful to have been saved from the shelter (he got out with 12 minutes to spare!) and he’s excited to meet a forever family to shower with love and gratitude!

Buster is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
