My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vera was rescued from the city shelter where she was brought with 3 other cats and a dog. No, they were not strays that someone found, or even being surrendered by their family. Instead, Vera and her friends were abandoned in an apartment when their guardian moved away. Luckily, they all found placement and escaped the dreaded kill list. When Vera arrived to us, she was overweight (over 18lbs!), her coat was covered in dandruff, and she had bald spots where the intake team at the shelter shaved off some mats. It was obvious that this sweet girl had been neglected for most of or all of her life given how young she is, but we also needed to ensure that there was no physical cause for her body condition. She was seen by one of our partner veterinarians who found her in good health, and all of her laboratory test results came back normal. At that point, it was time for Vera to begin a weight loss program! She has lost 2 pounds since arriving to us, and she is ready to find her forever home!

Vera quickly became a volunteer favorite because of her trusting and gentle nature. She enjoys being held, being talked to, and following humans around asking for pets. Her purring is incessant and contagious, particularly when snuggling with her pillow buddy -- it is safe to say that this is possibly the happiest kitty we have ever met! She is the type of cat who would be happy in any home, beginner or experienced, with guardians who are willing to spend time providing love, exercise, and portion control so that she can maintain a healthy weight.
