My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Watch out for the Chula Hops! They will make your day!

Hi, I’m Chula, a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix weighing 38 lbs and have been spayed. I was rescued from a shelter in Mexico, where the conditions were really tough, but I’m so happy to be safe now! I’m a sweet, gentle girl with a heart of gold. I’m still learning to trust humans, especially adult males, but once I do, I’ll give you all the love and loyalty I have to offer. I’m bathroom trained and do well with a set schedule.

I’m very calm and relaxed, but I can get a little energetic when I first wake up, especially in the mornings. I even have a cute “Chula hop” when I’m excited to see you! I am still nervous around men and get worried. I don’t bark, and I’m not aggressive at all, I just like to keep my distance and retreat to my safe spots when I’m feeling uncertain. I love to relax on soft spots around the house, whether that’s a comfy bed, a spot between the couch and table, or just curling up on the couch with you for a movie. I’m not really into toys, but I’m all about receiving affection, tummy rubs, and hugs. I enjoy walks in the afternoon and will happily walk by your side.

I’m a very kind and smart girl, and with consistent reassurance, I’ll thrive. I’m looking for a family that is patient and understanding, especially when it comes to building trust. Smaller children might make me nervous at first, but I do great with tweens and teens. My ideal home would be calm, where I don’t have to rebuild my relationship with an adult male right away. If you’re kind, patient, and willing to help me continue my journey of trust and love, I’ll reward you with a heart full of devotion and a wagging tail that’ll make you smile every day! I can’t wait to find my forever home where I can feel safe and loved. Positive reinforcement and words of affirmation will help me a lot! My adoption fee is $300 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
