My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Barney, now called Jax!

Affectionate Loving Adventurous Snuggly

Jax is a magnificent Great Dane who is filled with joy, love, warmth, and a touch of adventure. He is an enthusiast when it comes to walks. He tends to need a bit of coaching to refine his walking due to him being so excited to take his human on a journey! His preference is to spend time with others, and while he's made great strides in being left alone, his true joy is in the company of his loved ones. Jax is ideally looking for his forever home but is also open to applications for a foster.

He does not have previous experience with cats but has done well with other dogs, including small ones. He has had positive experiences with children aged 7 and older, showcasing his gentle and loving nature. Jax will offer a big bark to people entering his home but can be easily redirected. A physical fence is recommended, but not required for his adoptive home.

Jax is a connoisseur of affection and can often be found snuggling his humans and stuffed animals. He also enjoys car rides and baths. His love knows no bounds, as he showers those around him with kisses and finds solace in peaceful slumber. Loud noises and getting his nails trimmed are two dislikes of his. In August of 2023, Jax started taking medication for low thyroid. He has since been taken off of this medication per his vet’s recommendation to see if his endocrine system is back to normal.

Jax is a companion who will always brighten your day. If you're ready to embrace the love of this special Great Dane, please contact us by following one of the steps below.

1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Jax’s Placement Coordinator at courtney@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him.

2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process.

More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
