WAITLIST ONLY AT THIS TIME 4/27/24

Introducing Leo!

Affectionate Loyal Adventurous Great with Children

Personality: Leo is a true Velcro-Dane who thrives on companionship and closeness. While he may be a bit unsure when meeting new adults, he quickly warms up with a little patience and love. Leo adores children and does wonderfully with them, making him an ideal family pet.

Other Pets: Leo enjoys playing with other dogs but has a dominant personality, so he would do best as the only dog in his forever home or with dogs who are submissive. He hasn't had experience with cats, so introductions should be slow and structured.

Training: Leo is a smart and eager learner who catches on quickly to new commands and training tasks. He's already mastered commands like sit, down, wait, leave it, hush, and time for bed, showcasing his intelligence and willingness to please. He's also well-behaved on a leash and does a great job walking alongside his humans. He is housebroken and crate-trained. While he doesn’t currently free-roam while his foster family is away, he has not shown any destructive tendencies.

Likes: Leo enjoys going on walks, car rides, and new adventures with his family. He relishes the opportunity to explore the world around him. He is also a big fan of baths! He loves snuggling up for a nap with a cozy blanket and cherishes your affection above all else.

Health: Leo is in excellent health with no concerns at this time. His original owner mentioned potential food sensitivities, but his foster family hasn't noticed any issues.

Ideal Home: Leo would thrive in a loving home where he can receive plenty of affection, attention, and companionship. As a Velcro-Dane, he'll be happiest by your side, enjoying snuggles and quality time together. While a physical fence is recommended to keep him safe during playtime, it's not a strict requirement for his forever home.

If you're seeking a loyal and affectionate companion to share your life with, look no further than Leo. With his loving nature, protective spirit, and eager-to-please attitude, he's sure to become an invaluable member of your family. To make Leo a part of your family, please reach out to us by following one of the two options below.

1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter/foster with UMGDR, please contact Leo’s Placement Coordinator at michelle@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him.

More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
