My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Sky is the limit for this sweetie!

Hello, there! My name is Skyler. I’m a fun-loving girl with a sunny pawsonality. I’m 2 years old, 41 pounds, and a husky mix. I was recently rescued from what the media called the “Chandler 55” hoarding and abuse case in Arizona. Despite my stormy past, I’m hopeful for clear skies in my future!

I’m already spayed and I’m an active girlie. I was born with a congenital birth defect that impacts my legs. I’m still a strong pup, even with these deformities, and only have some mild discomfort with the range of motion in my right shoulder. I was fitted and am awaiting custom soft forelimb orthotic-type supports to keep me from developing soft tissue damage on the contact regions of my forelimbs. While I wait for my new shoes to arrive, I prefer being on grass, turf, or soft surfaces like yoga mats so that I don’t get carpet burn. Don’t be fooled… I still move quickly! I potentially have a luxating patella in my back, but surgical intervention is not recommended at this time.

I’m ready for a furever home who will love me for me! I currently live with another pooch and we love to ruff house and wrestle. Due to my less-than-stellar past, I can be selective with other dogs and prefer a slow introduction. I currently have some resource guarding and would be best with older kids who can respect my space during this adjustment period. I initially show signs of resource guarding but settle down once I know who my people are. I love laying my head out the door and watching my humans. I’m known to nibble at the grass and chase after bugs in the yard. Being differently abled does not stop me from doing all things dog! I’m finally learning what a true home should be like which is helping my sweet, silly side shine.

I’m a well-behaved girl who does her business outside. I use my crate (left open) as my safe space. I can be left alone without being crated, no problemo. I show off my husky howl when I’m put in a room for bedtime. I’d love to be with a human that’s okay with me catching some Zzz’s with them! I’m eager to learn and continue learning how to be the very best girl in a home with you.

Even though the odds were stacked against me in more ways than one, I’m still the most amazing gal who deserves all the love. I’d thrive in a calm household with a compatible dog who can be my buddy. I also seem just as content lounging and being near my people! I have attempted to lunge off furniture for fun (it looks like parkour!) so a room or gated area would be best. Despite the rain clouds that filled my past, I see nothing but sunshine if we do life together! Check me out on my foster’s insta @shann_and_muddypup

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
