My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌟 Ike Is Still Searching for His Perfect Home! 🌟
This handsome, high-energy boy has been with us since 11/8/2024, and he’s more than ready to find a family who will appreciate his big personality.

If you haven’t met Ike yet, the best word to describe him is “enthusiastic.” 😄 He’s a dog who feels all his feelings—especially excitement! We’ve noticed his energy has increased during his time in the shelter (totally normal for active dogs in this environment), so we’re confident that once he’s in a home with structure, enrichment, and regular exercise, he’ll settle into the amazing companion we know he can be.

💪 What Ike Needs:
• An active home, acreage, or a farm where he can run, explore, and burn off energy
• A person or family who enjoys training and structure
• Someone patient and dog-savvy who appreciates a spirited, loyal companion

🎓 The Good News:
Ike recently completed a one-month board & train, and he made fantastic progress! He’s smart, willing to learn, and loves having a job to do.

🐾 Other Pets:
• He may do well with another dog that matches his energy level
• Cats don’t seem to be his biggest problem, but his rough play style might be too much for them
• For the same reason, we recommend a home with no young children

🌲 His Favorite Thing in the World:
Being outside! Ike absolutely thrives outdoors and would be happiest where he has room to roam and someone who enjoys adventurous days with him.

He’s full of life, full of love, and truly a stunning dog. Ike just needs the right environment to let his best qualities shine. If you’re looking for a loyal, athletic, and wonderfully spirited best friend—come meet Ike! ❤️🐾

More about this shelter

The Lewis County Humane Society is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation which owns and operates a no-kill animal shelter on the Pine Grove Rd in Glenfield, NY. That shelter is contracted with the townships in Lewis County to house dogs brought in from the townships by the dog control officers. The shelter also houses homeless cats from the county.
Our shelter relies on the generosity of our supporters because shelter expenses far exceed our revenue. We greatly appreciate all your support which enables us to care for and find new homes for all the wonderful animals at our shelter.
