My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Terrell, TX
DOB: 03/26/2024

Meet Katie, a one-year-old fawn Great Dane with a delicate heart, puppy energy, and a personality as unique as her dainty “micro” frame. Weighing in at just 63 pounds due to poor early nutrition, Katie may be smaller than your typical Dane, but her spirit is just as big. Once she trusts you, she transforms into the ultimate cuddle bug—affectionate, goofy, and eager to be close.

Katie’s world is still a little scary. After coming from the shelter, she’s learning that life can be kind, but she needs slow, patient introductions, especially with men. She doesn’t show aggression—no barking, growling, or snapping—but she will try to flee when overwhelmed. Because of this, Katie is muzzle trained and will need continued support building her confidence through consistent exposure and training.

She absolutely thrives with other dogs and is very much a "dog’s dog." Katie shines when she has a playful companion to romp with, chase in the yard, and tug on ropes with. She’s currently living with four other Great Danes and does beautifully with all of them. A home with at least one playful, confident dog will help Katie continue learning how to be a dog and burn off that boundless puppy energy.

String cheese is her currency of choice—though she won’t turn her nose up at most treats—and she responds well to gentle correction. She’s kennel trained, walks nicely on leash, and rides well in the car. House training is still in progress, and she’ll need frequent walks or mental stimulation to help keep her out of mischief.

Katie is a prissy little thing, prancing when she runs and always perching her butt just off the ground when she sits—it’s adorable. While she hasn’t been cat-tested, she does seem to have a strong prey drive. She also hasn’t spent time around children, so older, dog-savvy kids who respect her space would be the best fit, if kids are in the picture at all.

The perfect home for Katie is quiet and stable, with one or more playful dogs, no young children, and a large fenced yard where she can run and explore at her own pace. She needs someone with patience and a gentle approach, who understands that trust takes time—but once you earn it, Katie will give you her whole heart. She may be fearful now, but with the right support, Katie is ready to blossom into the happy, loving companion she was always meant to be.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
