My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for a smart, energetic companion who’s always ready for adventure? Meet Lucy, a stunning 4 year old, 55-pound Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Poodle mix with the loyalty of a guardian and the heart of a hunter.

Lucy thrives in the great outdoors—she loves stretching her legs in a secure, fenced yard and would be happiest in a home where she has space to run. True to her retriever instincts, she’s highly prey-driven and finds joy in chasing squirrels and rabbits. A country home or an active family who appreciates her strong hunting drive would be ideal.

She’s deeply loyal and protective of her people. Due to her protective nature, Lucy would be most successful in a home without children. Lucy is crate trained, fully house trained, and knows how to settle down indoors after a good run outside. She does have a dominant personality and will try to assert herself around other dogs—so a home with no other dogs is necessary. Lucy loves to be around her people, enjoying scratches around her neck and ears.  She'll often lay her head on your lap and gaze adoringly up at her people. Lucy has been working on her leash walking and has made incredible progress in recent weeks.  She also follows basic commands well and has the potential to improve even more with continued positive reinforcement and training.

What Lucy Needs:

• A fenced yard (non-negotiable—she will chase wildlife)

• An active household or outdoor-loving individual

• Someone who understands and respects her prey drive

• A home without small pets or livestock

• A family without other dogs

• An experienced dog owner who can provide structure and continued training

A home without young children.  She is currently fostered with children as young as nine, and does well, but does not do well with younger children.

Lucy is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and ready to meet her forever person. If you’re looking for a loyal, athletic, and intelligent dog with a bold spirit, Lucy may be your perfect match.
