My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rambo (formerly known as Hambone — or as we lovingly call him, Bobo or Hammie!)

This sweet, soulful one-year-old boy is 65 lbs of pure love. Rambo has been through a lot in his short life, but you’d never know it from his happy tail wags and gentle eyes. After undergoing heartworm treatment and coming out the other side like a champ, he’s blossomed in foster care — and now he’s ready for his forever home!

Rambo is potty trained, neutered, and a total lovebug who thrives with companionship. While he doesn't use a crate, he's respectful in the home and does best with a daily routine. He’s a big fan of walks and is polite on the leash. Toys still confuse him a bit, but give him a bone and he’s content. What he really wants, though, is you — preferably home a lot and maybe with a dog buddy or two! He absolutely adores other dogs and would love to have a canine sibling to show him the ropes.

Rambo was very scared when he first came into foster care, but with time and patience, he has made incredible progress. He’s learning to trust, gaining confidence every day, and showing more of his goofy, affectionate personality. He’s less anxious, more curious, and truly coming into his own. He’s a snuggler, a loyal shadow, and a dog who will repay kindness tenfold.

If you’re looking for a gentle, grateful, and loving companion who’s ready to keep growing by your side, Rambo might just be your perfect match.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping.

In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process.

If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application.

Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.
