If you’ve ever wished for a dog who is equal parts genius, goofball, and cuddle monster, allow us to introduce Toby—your future best friend and part-time laundry enthusiast!

Toby is a snuggle bug with a PhD in affection. His morning routine includes burrowing into your side like a furry croissant before you’ve even had your coffee. He’ll press his whole body against you with such commitment, you’ll wonder if you accidentally adopted a weighted blanket. But don’t be fooled—this pup is pretty smart too, so smart in fact, he’s basically running a one-dog enrichment program. He’s mastered so many commands including sit, paw, other paw, down, wait, come, bring it, drop it, off and even “touch,” which he now uses to politely boop you with his nose instead of his teeth when he wants attention.

Speaking of attention, Toby has a signature move: the Laundry Chair Heist. If you leave a pile of laundry on a chair (which you plan to fold sometime before 2028), Toby will casually stroll over, pluck a sock or shirt from the pile, and parade it around like he’s modeling for a canine fashion magazine. But here’s the twist—he doesn’t chew it. He doesn’t even hide it. He just wants you to notice him. If you ignore him, he’ll just drop it like it’s no big deal. If you offer a treat, he’ll weigh his options like a little furry economist deciding between fame or fortune.

He can be reactive with some other dogs and has made a lot of progress with training, but here’s the amazing part: if he’s in the middle of a good game or you ask him to bring you his ball before he sees another dog, he’ll avoid the dog drama and choose playtime instead. When he’s focused, he’s incredible - especially during his favorite soccer-style game, where he’ll chase the ball with such joy, you’d think he’s auditioning for Team Canada. That’s huge for Toby, and it shows just how far he’s come with his trust and training.

Toby’s ideal day includes at least two long walks, a good chew session with his beloved bones or bully sticks, and some brain enrichment toy time. He doesn’t love going into the crate, but once he’s in, he settles like a champ. He’s house-trained, furniture-approved, and improvi

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application here (https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/).

Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 48 hours, please remember we are a 100% volunteer based organization, and many of us have full time jobs outside of rescue. We appreciate your patience.

Our priority is to ensure the fit is right for both you and the dog, we will reach out to your personal and veterinarian references (if applicable), and your landlord (if applicable). A virtual video or pictures of your place are required at the time of application.

You will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog. If after the meet and greet, you would like to proceed with adoption, we will review your application internally and with the foster and make a final decision.

Formed in 2013, a small scale dog rescue located in Ontario. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based.

None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival.

We are dedicated in rescuing dogs from the Caribbean, Mexico and North America as well as local surrenders.

We place dogs in loving, responsible and committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process.
