My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Layton – A Survivor with a Gentle Soul
Male | Melanistic Doberman | Potty, Crate & Leash Trained

Layton is one of the lucky few. Pulled from the San Bernardino kill list alongside several other dogs, he’s a beautiful reminder that second chances can change a life. This melanistic Doberman has clearly endured a rough past, but you’d never know it from his gentle, loving spirit.

Layton is potty trained , crate trained (though he’s not a fan of the crate ), and walks well on a leash ‍. He sleeps and eats in his crate like a gentleman and is eager to please. He can be male dog-selective but responds well to redirection. He’s okay with cats and children , listens well, and thrives when he’s close to his person.

Layton is a quiet , affectionate companion with a loyal heart. He’s got a strong presence and would make an excellent guard dog ‍ protecting not out of aggression, but out of devotion. Layton is estimated at 4 years old and Is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

This boy didn’t just survive — he’s ready to live, love, and protect. Will you be the one to give Layton the safe and happy life he’s waited so long for?

Additional adoption info

In some circumstances, meeting the dog and a home check are done at the same time if the dog is ready to be adopted. We do have conversation with potential adopters prior to them meeting the dog. If they are interested in adopting a puppy who is not ready for adoption (not altered, not UTD, etc) they are able to put a hold on the pup until ready for adoption.

More about this rescue

Pathways for Paws was founded in October 2019. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, animal welfare organization.

Our mission is to make spay/neuter & vaccinations affordable to those in our communities. By achieving this, we will help prevent the neglect & abuse of dogs. All dogs in our care are spay/neutered, given the age appropriate vaccinations and microchipped before going to their FURever families.

We work with rescues & fellow animal advocates to continue growing a network of volunteers and supporters.
