My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adorable 10-year-old Kona Cabernet came to us from Corona Shelter, where he had been surrendered by his owner for unknown reasons. Kona lives in a Foster home, which has given us the opportunity to learn what he’s like in a home environment while he enjoys the comfort of being part of a family again.

His Foster Mom reports:

"When Kona first arrived, he was very cautious and needed time to trust us and feel safe. With patience and gentle reassurance, he’s started to open up, and once he feels comfortable, his personality shines through. We lovingly call him our “spicy Pom Pom.” We can tell that he wants affection and love from us, but know that it needs to be given at his pace. He enjoys being petted and will sometimes paw at you for more, especially during belly rubs!

Kona does well during bath time. He is nervous of the water, but handles it well — especially if there are treats. He did well with the groomer, too; however, he did indicate once that he needed some space. He’s eating well and enjoys his breakfast and dinner, though he sometimes gets distracted and needs a little reminder to finish. He also loves his treats!

Kona does well on walks and doesn’t react to other dogs barking. He does well with our dogs; however, there are times when he will let them know to give him some space, especially when he's resting.

Still, Kona has shown playful interest in one of our dogs (though she hasn’t quite joined in yet). Sometimes he even gets the zoomies and will chase after us, wanting to play—it’s adorable! He especially enjoys playing fetch with a lint dryer ball.

Kona is a gentle, resilient little dog who just needs patience, love, and understanding. Once he knows he’s safe, he blossoms into a sweet, funny companion with plenty of personality. He’s looking for a calm, caring home where he can continue to grow in confidence and comfort — because this spicy Pom Pom has so much love to give."
