Meet Shabazz — known as Bubby to his foster — a tenderhearted, affectionate boy who wants nothing more than to feel safe and loved. He is the definition of a soulful companion: gentle, expressive, deeply connected to his person, and happiest when he’s close enough to rest his head on you.
Since arriving in his foster home, Shabazz has continued to blossom. He has done wonderfully with housetraining and already has a consistent routine in place. He sleeps quietly through the night, enjoys cozy resting places, and loves having something to chew while he relaxes — especially a puzzle toy or a yak chew. Indoors, he is calm, respectful, and an easy housemate. He has no interest in counter surfing or grabbing things he shouldn’t — instead, he quietly follows his foster from room to room or settles nearby for a soft nap.
Shabazz loves being around his person and finds a lot of comfort in togetherness. He may need some reassurance and gentle support as he adjusts to time alone, and his foster reports he is already responding well to routine, structure, and patient guidance. With consistency and love, this sweet boy will gain confidence and continue learning that he’s safe even when his people aren’t right beside him.
Walks are one of Shabazz’s favorite parts of the day. He starts out excited and may pull at first, but with calm redirection he settles in and walks beautifully. He is curious about the world and improves a little more each day as he practices leash skills and gains confidence during strolls around the neighborhood.
Shabazz’s gentle spirit shines when meeting new people. In the past, he has greeted kids and adults with warmth and soft enthusiasm, leaning his whole body in for affection. His foster describes him as one of the sweetest, most eager-to-please dogs they’ve worked with — smart, intuitive, and so grateful for kindness.
He has a medium energy level: joyful and engaged on walks, and relaxed and snuggly at home. His perfect match will be someone who values connection, patience, and the beautiful journey of watching a sensitive dog bloom under love and stability.

When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.

We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door.
