My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

💚🐾 Meet Kona – Chill, Charming & Ready for Adventure! 🐾💚

Kona is a handsome, mellow, and affectionate brindle-and-white sweetheart who’s just as happy exploring a hiking trail as he is snuggling on the couch. 🥰 Saved by Paws Without Borders from Santa Cruz Animal Care & Control when he was at risk due to being Heartworm positive, this resilient boy has beaten the odds, completed treatment, and is now Heartworm-free, healthy, and ready to find his forever family! 🌟

✨ Why you’ll love Kona:
• 🐶 Approx. 2–3 years old — the perfect age for adventure and naps
• ⚖️ 57 lbs of handsome, huggable, brindle perfection
• 🧸 Gentle, easygoing, and super loving — the ultimate loyal companion
• 🐾 Enjoys walks and does great on leash (best when it’s just him strutting his stuff)
• 🐕 Dog social — lives with 2 beagles and a senior pitbull, loves their company
• 🚗 Big fan of car rides and pup cups (seriously, it’s a lifestyle)
• 🛋️ Calm and mellow indoors — a true chill buddy once the adventure’s done
• 💩 Housebroken champ!
• 🎓 Still learning crate training — might sing you a little tune when left alone 😉
• 👶 Best with older kids (can get jumpy when excited, because love just bursts out)
• 🦴 Loves chew toys and quiet moments — still figuring out the whole “toy playtime” thing
• 🐱 No cats, please — he’s more of a “dogs-only” kind of guy
• ❤️ Neutered, fully vetted, and no medical issues

Kona is a sweet, soulful boy with a big heart and a calm, loving spirit. He’s ready to be your adventure buddy, road trip co-pilot, and best friend for life. 🌄🐾

More about this shelter

Hello! Thanks for checking us out. We are a 501-c3 non profit rescue and rehab service in Tucson, AZ

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from the streets of Mexico in cooperation with other animal rescue organizations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Our shelter in Hermosillo, Sonora, Vidas Con Causa, currently has over 150 dogs. There, we provide medical care and a loving place for them to heal before coming to the US, then we foster and work on finding the perfect fit for adoption. You can also visit the available dogs at the rescue in Mexico. Our rescue partners spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs and we know MOST of their
perks and quirks!

We help special needs dogs, the amputees, the pregnant Pitties, the MexiMutts, those from small independent shelters who don't get much notice, the cancer patients. We provide round-the-clock care until these dogs are ready for rehoming.
